S V B World Champion ? ?

I must say that it has been a long time since I have seen such enthusiasm over American pool, and I attribute it to America's "love affair" with Shane Van Boening.

Most folks want to root for the home team in international competitions, like the WPC, and to have Shane Van Boening shine as brightly as he has this past year, it certainly is demonstrative of what pool, in my eyes, has been sorely lacking. He's a shining star that we all want to enjoy.

Y'all must admit that this year, pool in the United States has taken a giant step forward. If Shane Van Boening can be the change agent to elevate the popularity of pool in this country, then it is truly a good thing. :)

I can't wait until next week. The WPC begins November 3rd. Somebody needs to provide an Internet website. I sure as heck don't want to miss this event, even if I have to watch it on my computer. :p

Thank you for sharing and congrats to Shane and your family. He is bringing some real excitement to this game we call pool.

I see you're from Rapid City. Did you ever play at Tom McCarty's Marble Club?

Yes ,I know Tom .infact Shane would play tom 9 ball and give weight . not sure how much but it would be something that would m ake it interesting for Shane. Not much money, mostly just something to do.
By the way,Tom just recently sold the Marble club to Stan and Laurie Hawkins who relocated it out by the Mall.

Cool. I talked to Tom and he had told me he had some health issues and he had sold the Marble Club. I remember him telling me there "is this kid that really plays" - guess I figured out who he meant;) I keep trying and he keeps promising to come visit me in Montana. He used to hang around my house in Phoenix and started selling some of my cues when he lived there. He was really glad that he was able to move back to Rapid City and start the room. Maybe you can nudge him a little and get him over here. And he can bring you and Shane any time you want:) :)

The Bloombergs had a unbelievable year the year Gari Jo won the vnea Masters with sisster Timi takeing 2nd and mother Jeanne taking 4th. There team consisting of the three girls and Laurie Hawkins took top honors and I took 3rd in trickshots. When we returned to South Dakota I called my son in
Siouxfalls to tell him of the grand slam week we had,he responded by saying,
" I heard about the results of your week, wow what a great week and,by the way, I won the state golf chamionship". Mike is not only a hell of a golfer but a pool player with same instinctsas the rest of the Bloombergs have.

Hey Supercue..

Wana adot and train a large 34 black male in Richmond Va. with a smile that would melt all the snow in the Dakotas...Ill even wear one of those cute little hats i see you in when they snap pictures of you. I got my bags packed...

I think it is wonderful that you took Shane under your wing and showed him not only what it takes to be a good pool player but what it takes to be a good man. That the one thing my father did for me.. he was a great pool shooter in his on right and propelled me along..and truly elevated my game higher than i thought..actually to the hight of his at one time..but 7 years of not playing killed my game..im on a come back though and seeing shane shoot and knowing that he has a disability only fuels my fire. I work with Children with Autism and mental retardation..and i actually have a disability of my own. I dont have any muscle in my eyes..its more like a grissle..i cant move my eyes they were stationaried when i was in the third grade..by the look of my eyes the doctor that did the surgery was crossed eyed as well haha but i have doubted that i could reach pro or even semi pro with this defect..but seeing Shane do his thing..put fire under my but and has me getting up early in the morning and going to work out my local pool hall 5 days a week..so watch out Richmond im coming ..and look for Quitecoolguy playing in the open next year..not just watching... SIR you are truly a great granddad and man. Take care...and let that adotion thing marinate a bit ...would be one hell of Thanksgiving Dinner hehe:D

Heck im always having people look for the big guy in the teeshirt

I thought heck why not just post a pic of myself..so that everyone can put a face to the name quitecoolguy so ..here i am

Seems like yesterday I took 1 1/2 year old Shane to our pool hall, secured iin a cptains chair where he would sit by the hours, not fussing, but, seemingly, mesmerized by the movemrnts of the balls. Aware of his intense interests, at Christmass I bought him a 2' X 4' pool table and in the process opening his gifts he spotted the table, dropped his toys, took the cue in hand and took a stance at the table that was near perfect, including the bridge (with no help)
I knew Shane had all natural instincts it takes to make a good pool player as I had recognized in his mother ,Timi Bloomberg and his aunt,Gari Jo Bloomberg, also at a very young age. Both girls have championship titles in state, national, and international levels'.I knew he would be a great student.
Teaching was a joy as he grasped everything I taught him with ease and was loving it. By the time Shane was 5-6 years old I had him shooting trick shot shows with me where loved to show his skils. We took him to a couple BCA trade shows where he chalenged and played several
Greats (Mike Massey,Tom Kennedy,Mike Siegel, and others ) When Mike siegel
Played him,he was so impressed he took Shane over to Danny Janes and told Danny," If I were you I would hwve this little boy playing with one of my cues now so when he becomes world champion you can say he got there with a Joss cue". It's Amazing Mike has that ability to recognize that in a youngster
as he has. Danny did make him a beautifull cue with points that spell Shane. By the way, its still his basic cue.
From there it was leagues and competitive pool where emotions enters into your game. I remember one occasion when Shane was about 10,losing a match then slipping into a nearby where I found him slightly sobbing and I remember telling him "Its easy for a man to handle winning but a REAL MAN to learn how handle losing. He learned well.
Working with Shane over the years on patterns, banking, focusing, ect, has been such a joy as it was with my girls, who I also started playing at a young age. The gratification comes with watching him mature and going on to win top honors in the state,VNEA, and then recently ,as a pro, playing in the finals in three major touneys,(Enjoy pool, the summit, and winnig the 10 ball in Florida) To win the US Open WOW. I'm ,oh, so proud of Shane for what he has achieved but equally as proud of the way he conducts himself on and away from the arena. The way my knwledge has been displayed by my offspring is the most rewarding thing I could ever hope for.
Shane a Champion, OH Yes, BIG TIME
Grandpa, Gary Bloomberg

Congratulations!

You have a legacy in Shane that you can be proud of.

Shane's modesty is refreshing. I watched him at the U.S. Open and predicted he would win it, not just because he is a great player but also because of his work ethic.

Between matches, while other pool players were watching other matches and shooting the breeze, Shane was quietly shooting balls in the pocket, practicing. This gave me an indication that he was ready to win this tournament.

His calm demeanor throughout the tournament was incredible.

Yes, you should be proud, Grandpa.

I knew this guy was a bodyguard. Just look at him. The first picture he posts on AZ and he's bodyguarding. :)

You know all pool players have stories. Do you have some more to share about Shane and his playing that you would care to share. Loved the stuff you posted.
