Sad but interesting story

Great idea! Everybody needs to buy more cues.

Larry

Speaking of Wonder Cues, I have one of yours, Larry. A Beautiful 60" Wood Pin
with (2) Deano-taper Shafts. I would like to have one of them re-tapered to a
Conical Taper (ala John Madden) and trust that you are the best man for the job.
I'd also like you to build a Super Curly Shaft for it.

Folks, if you haven't yet shot with a Vigas Cue, you are in for a treat when you do.

Magic Cues do exist and truly help the mental game along with the physical game.

what likely happens is you get to go back to a simple cue with no gimmicks in it and you shoot better. because a no gimmick cue is the same for all the shots and not specific cases.

So....if I play with a different cue every time I go to the poolhall, I will play 2 balls better than I would if I used my main player every time???

Maniac (gonna hafta buy more cues now, dang it!!!)

No, not necessarily. Because the the brain in that instance will acclimate to a constant flux of feedback.

I have an old Predator SP that a friend of mine had bought from another guy I know (see pix in my profile). He let me shoot with it and it was instant lust. I had no clue what the cue was worth and my friend was not really looking to sell it, so I traded him something that he had a low resistance to (a firearm) and it was a done deal.

I have let others shoot with it and consequently turned down offers to sell the stick. Ive been offered more than the stick is ostensibly worth since it is pretty dinged up and more than 20 years old.

Some things transcend their original station in life because they are just more than the sum of their parts or intended purpose. Finding a guitar with that golden tone, or a car that just refuses to be anything but awesome, or a painting that is undeniably perfect in every way. It is what it is, and I love things like cues that you have to investigate first-hand to know the truth of. Its perfectly camouflaged until you feel how perfect it is.

I say if you have found a cue that lights you up when you shoot with it, never ever sell it or you will regret it.... not for any price. Things like this do not have a price.

Regards,

Lesh

Holy Grail!

It's very crazy.. Im still in shock myself...

You found the holy grail! The Nazis will come after it now. Should have kept it on the down low. You lucky guy, now you don't need to practice or even hit balls, just point and shoot. I say Mosconi Cup is in your sights now. Enjoy and good luck in your journey.

Is there a "magic cue" thread already?

Mine was a Bill Hagan cue that was beat to hell, and had a warped birdseye shaft. I never thought I'd like a forward weighted cue until that one. It played very different than any other cue I'd owned up until then. I will eventually build another shaft for it, replace the buttcap, and do a refinish/rewrap.

Lol, I'd settle for a "magic" Ginacue if i had to...

I wish I had a picture of that Ginacue, it was beautiful. People, including me should take pictures of their cues. It is nice for future memories. I owned one of the most elaborate Szambotis he ever made. That was what "He" told me about the cue when he sent it to me. I do have a picture of that cue around somewhere but have not seen it for years.

More magic cues... too funny. pool players change cues like they change underwear. No other sport I can think of does this. But the main reason they do, is because deep down, it just does not really matter. That is why baseball players don't "change" mitts... they get a tool, break it in to their liking and that's it. The play with it until they "need" a new one.

They don't go around playing catch with everyone elses mitt to find a magic one, or a magic bat.

Pool players are a strange breed, indeed :) But hey, it keeps the cue makers in business, and it finally gets pool players to "open" their wallets, so i'm cool with it :)

every time I added a cue to my collection I shot at the top of my game with it and I thought I found a good back up cue, but after a number of hours with it my game would start dropping off and id start noticing things I didn't like. now if I ever need to use one of them I just shoot ok, except for....a 60 inch thin taper house cue that came with the table, it shoots every bit as well as my custom every time I use it and in some ways I prefer it. im going to have a joint put in it and make it my traveler/sneaky pete

Sowder can take care of that for about $40. He cut mine and I have no complaints.

Had a magic wand in my hands for about 3 months. Could of bought it but the shafts were dinged beyond repair. Should of done it anyway. Boy was that combo lively.

It is all mental. I get the same feeling when I am playing with a different cue. The mental aspect is that you know your usual cue very well. You know how it will feel before you shoot it and when you miss, you know why.

With a new cue, you are playing the same but feel like you are playing better because you don't know the nuances of the new cue. Therefore, you are easily impressed and surprised with the cue and your play. Just like if you start missing and you will deem that cue crap too.
