Same playing cue for 3 or more years?

1997 Searing 4 point ebony with flat faced radial joint with ebony collars.
Searing 13 mm shafts, Ivory Ferrules with medium Moori tips.

WW cue since 2002,original shaft and champion tip
southwest since 2003,original shafts and triangle tips

> Been playing with the same Runde Schon for 16 years, with one of the original ivory ferruled shafts at 12.5,down from 13.25. My break cue is a 2nd generation Joss SP,not the original shaft, for at least 9 years. The tips are currently a Moori H on the ivory and a later,non-original shaft has an unknown layered tip on Micarta which has not yellowed yet. I typically prefer Sumo's. The tip on my other original Micarta shaft is a black Future synthetic, used as a jump cue with a butt made by Bill McDaniel. Tommy D.

Since August, 1995

I have been playing with my one of a kind Tim Scruggs cue since August of 1995. I went to Baltimore in April of that year and spent about 45 minutes discussing what I wanted to have made. They took my design idea and made me a cue that felt just the way I expected it would from the first ball I hit in their old shop. It currently has the old Aegis ferrules and one shaft has a Kamui, the other a Morri, both medium. Anyone that I have given the chance to hit balls with it is amazed that a cue as light as mine can hit sooooo sweet! When they hear it only weighs 18.2 ounces, they think I am telling a lie, it really is only 18.2 ounces!

McDermott E-series Bacote with leather wrap. 13mm shaft with a Moori Med. Sometimes I switch shafts to a 12.5 Frey / Sniper or a 12.8 Putman / Talisman Med. Other cues have come and gone from my case in the 2 1/2 years I've had it, but this one will be around forever.

1993 Dan Dishaw 6 pont. Two shafts, 12 1/ 2 mm with Ivorine {sp?} ferrules and Moori medium tips. Two original shafts, somewhat smaller, same ferrules, LePro tips.
I played with this from '95 to about '98 or '99. Played with Gulyassy for four years. with the Dishaw on and off during that time. Played with a Murray Tucker for about a year, with the Dishaw on and off. Had some others, but have played with and continue to play with the Dishaw. Only cue I play with at the moment.

the first 12 years i played i used 4 cues, about 3 years each, this is approximate within 6 months,

mcdermott D-26 1.5 years i used it alot
joss east 3 years i really used it alot
Southwest 1.5 years used it alot
Bill Teeter 3.5 years used it more than the rest
Tad 2.5 years used it alot

from 2000 to 2007 i used a Southwest- not to much play on a continous basis, but I used it for along time so the total play is alot over a long time. it plays different than any other SW, its a Ivory point/Ebony cue with a very soft hit for a SW.

Barry Szam its the best cue I own, all the cues above played great except the McD it was just good, i like to change cues about every 2-3 years for some reason, i have had heavy cues, light ones, different tapers, balance points, shaft diameters etc. It took me years to find what I liked. the B.Szam I honestly think is it, besides the fact its the best looking cue I have ever seen, not just my cues but of any cue ever it fits all the criteria I have found to be the best for me which is:

about 20 oz, 13mm shafts, the balance point is good cant explaine it, irish lined wrap(penn) is what I think is on it, and what ever tips Barry used. I have a Gus that plays about the same, The Barry is the fanciest cue I have ever had for a daily player, I like plain cues for players but I enjoy this Barry I cant put it down on the days I can play, so I'll play with a flashy cue, I dont think i'll change cues again because of my experience the result of years of trial and error. I doubt I'll change it in 2 or 3 years it will be my player until it wears out, and that aint gonna happen, i'll use it till its worn down to the wood.

side note I have a Bushka that I have used just a little that seemed to play as good as the Barry or perhaps a bit better-It could have been me having a good day i only used it a few minutes so its not fair to say, I am going to use it for a few hours and see how it compairs, it will never be a daily player-but will be used at home sometimes even if it feels better than Barrys cue.

honerable mention and right up there with Barry,Gus, Bushka, Tad, SW is the new guy Mr. Eric Crisp -Sugartree his cues play awesome. Its hard to rate them but 6 I mentioned he is #4 on the list. And a good guy. I'm friends with other people on the list and dont want to hurt anyones feelings. and its only my opinion nothing is a fact.

as a side note all Gus cues play a little different to me and most SW cues play similar(except my main one), I have one Gus that dosent play at all, i dont know why but it just isnt happining, I have one other with skinny shafts that I dont like(i like the cue itself not the shafts) but I know the reason the shafts, the one that dosent play to well has the specs I like and is in mint condition but for what ever reason it just isnt the best-Jay Helfert said the same thing, funny how that works.

Was playing with a Jensen BEM, SS joint, Ivory ferrules and milk dud tip for 7 years.

Just moved a year ago to a Jensen Ebony 4 pointer with a Buckhorn joint and Mammoth Ivory ferrules.

schon sp46 late 80s......5 shafts......ob1/pred z2/stock shaft with sniper med micarta/stock shaft with moori med micarta/stock 31 in shaft ivory. Love the interference fit of the joint, makes the stick feel like a big tuning fork.

Had a Viking I bought well-used at 16 years of age, kept it until I was 30, conveniently disappeared when I was going through a divorce

Wish I still had that cue... :(

scruggs

I have been playing with a Tim Scruggs Custom Cue since 2001. The only exception being a couple of months ago while I had them refinish it for me; a long slow torture. I just can't see myself hitting a ball with anything else. :)

Once I got it back, I went on a tear locally. Won 5 tournaments in a row, scored a 40-0 in my VNEA 9-ball league last week and strung 3 racks of 8-ball together for the first time in I don't know how long.:D

I am starting to save my winnings so I can start a high end collection of his and Mike's cues, but don't let the wife know...
