i have noticed that i'm in a position that sandbagging seems to be the only option at this point in order to win more money, is this a bad thing?

If you can look yourself in the mirror and be content with cheating to win, there's your answer.

ok then i guess i will just try harder and take the fun out of the game.

This isn't like dodge ball that kids can't play anymore because someone loses and that is bad for a child to learn that someone wins and someone loses.

Put your big boy pants on and try harder............

If you try harder and win more................ well then

the fun is back in the game.

thats not it at all..if a person drinks and smokes weed it is a form of sandbagging because when they are sober the game is diff....but once someone challenges you for money you say ok but how bout we play tomorrow lol ......you go home sober up and practice in the morning.

Sandbagging, known by it's other name is Hustling. Oddly enough, many don't consider hustling to be cheating, simply bad manners. The thought process here is very similar to, caveat emptor or let the buyer beware. Some believe it's a dog eat dog world and if the opponent can't spot the practice, perhaps they shouldn't be playing the game.

In my mind it seems to be the difference between, the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. The rules don't require a person to play their best to play the game. So the question remains; is it cheating?

All this having been said, I know that my opinion is not worth any more than the text on your screen. I would however, recommend you refrain from sandbagging. I believe this to be an integrity issue and further believe that anyone's character is worth more than the short lived, ego boost or probable minor financial gain. As others have said, strive to improve your game and at the end of the day, your reward will be worth it. Live the higher law.

Sandbagging applies, IMO, only in handicap situations. If you're doing league or playing in a weighted tournament, then I would consider that cheating.

If you're gambling and see some dope who actually falls for it, have right at it. From my experience however, "hustles" rarely work anymore and any player with an ounce of skill will see through sandbagging after about two or three sets.

ok then how about if you play in a league and you have been stuck in the same division for 8 years without a trip and the director refuses to lower you into a bracket you can win.........the would you sandbag?

Sandbagging doesn't belong in league play. If you've moved up, either play better or if you can't handle the weight you give your opponent, quit. Tons of players have a hard time with the handicapped leagues, but learn to deal with it or don't play at all.

Ask a car salesman if he could earn a decent living if he didn't sandbag? Do you think your boss tells you ''everything'' ;).

Never compromise what you believe in for personal gain. When I joined league I wanted to be the highest I could get. I know there are 9 ball players who could kill me in a race even though I'm ranked a 9 in 9 ball. But, I want to pley them because the only way to get better is to play better players. I think I can play with most people in 8 ball but not 9. You know what your weakness is, practice that. Practice isn't playing against someone. That's playing. A good way to proctice 9 ball is to break a rack and take ball in hand to try and run out. Position is everything and with positiion is cue ball control. TO achieve both you have to have a good stroke and you have to know what english does. I know it sounds hard, but if you practice, stroke, control and speed, you'll get better in no time.

my pool mentor said never show your true speed unless its worth something so....

Sounds like your mentor is an old two bit hustler that hasn't evolved much with the times or he's picturing himself in some lame movie he watched on Cinemax...

Either way I'd prolly look for a new mentor :sorry:

but then again are you the type of guy that runs out a pretty girl just to look like some kind of a hot shot....or will you let her have some fun? you don't always play full speed unless its for money or pride.
