is there any real difference in the paper you get from lowes for wood , and the automotive type that would make a difference doing cues ?
the automotive type is waterproof and i am in the auto buisness so i can get a better price on it.
i have not worked with wood that much so all opinions will be helpfull.

The grain on the automotice stuff seems more consistant. If you can buy it cheaper why not use it..

I use nothing but automotive abrasives. Sometimes 3-M or Mirka but here lately I've been using some cheaper stuff called Rhynowet. I was buying 3-M from a guy at a large Flea Market really cheap (.15 a sheet) as it was graded wrong but I haven't drove up there in a couple of years. It is a fairly long drive and often he only had the really smooth grades. If he had what I could use I would buy 500 to a 1000 sheets.

i bought some of that Norton sandpaper at Home Depot just to try it.it was expensive at Home Depot.anyway it cuts twice as good as the 3M we have been using, andn transfers less for finish work.it also lasts longer.final sanded 3 no wrap cues with one piece.at their website it is much more reasonable.i am no sandpaer expert but i do know it is at least twice as good as the 3M that comes in the white boxes.only downfall is that they don't mark the grit as well as 3M and you can lay it down in a pile and never figure out what it is again.

Thats why you have folders with each grade in it. New folders and used folders.

3M fre-cut gold.......320 to 800
Nikkon brand......1000 to 3000

IMHO everything else is junk........do some research and find out why.

<~~~ I have seen the canyons they leave..............

I started using KLINGSPOR about 5 years ago & love it. It's made in Germany & sold out of their office in Indiana. It's cheaper than 3M & I can't tell the difference...JER
