Sang Lee Passes Away

I was saddened to read about the death of three cushion legend Sang Lee. I have played many times at Carom Cafe in queens, NY. Carom cafe is the room he and his close friend Michael Kang conceived and built only about five years ago.

I remember the only time I played three cushion with Sang. I needed to make 23 before he made 80, but he smoked me like a cigar, pummeling me by 80 - 11. At one point, he had three back-to-back innnings of 9 - 8 - 9. Now how could anyone compete with that?

Guess I won't get revenge after all, but I'm glad to have known the man, and always respected him as an ambassador for three cushion billiards.

SJM,
Not that I am a student of billiards, but for anyone who has even a casual interest in seeing some extraordinary talent, they MUST see the Accu-Stats video of Sang Lee playing against Raymond Ceulemans. You will be astonished at their imagination, speed control, and accuracy. To me it appears superhuman.

That's a good one, Willie. I own several Sang Lee Accu-stats tapes, but my favorite is Sang Lee vs Lou Havermans (1996?), a match in which Sang needs just 24 innings to get to 60, and in which he runs both a 15 and a 14. Simply amazing. Robert Byne's great commentary makes it even better.

We have lost a Master Artisan in Sang Lee. Best wishes to his family and friends.

MR. Lee was an outstanding ambassador of billiards and probably was one of the reasons billiards gained much more popularity.15 years ago there was only a handfull of tournys in the USA,now theres several tournys a year that draw international players and even weekly tournys in certain citys.Actually he was a celebrity in billiard circles but was very aproachable and loved to play with anyone.
