Here's question to all dbl elimination bar table tournament players. Would you rather play both days Sat./Sun with a $50 entry?

Or would you rather play in a One Day Saturday day event with a $100 entry? No hotels needed.

The one day event would start at 10am, with the finals at 10PM. Match times 10/12/2/4/6/8/10pm.

The format for the one day event would be nearly identical to the pro tennis format. Sets best 3 outta 5 with tiebreakers....single elimination.

If you win 3 rounds your in the money. If your a room owner, most all your tables will be available for your regulars in the evening rounds 6pm/8pm/10pm (cash rounds) not effecting your regular customers.

Unless you have a crystal ball, how would you plan on the finals starting at 10pm depending on how many players show up? Then, why would you double the entry fee just to make it a single elimination? Sets 3 out of 5, with tie breaker? I got it now, this is an 8 player, single elimination tournament.....go ahead on, never mind i said anything.

Tournament play can be very slow with many players deliberately stalling. Put the 30 second shot clock on the slow players. That way the tournament moves right along.

Nope, it's a 64 player event with a room that has to have 16 bar tables.

At the 1.5 hour mark, they will get notified as well as the player meeting.

3 outta 5.........from start to finish.

I'm still confused, is it a race to 3 games, like a person can win the match with a 3-0 win, in which case 5 has nothing to do with it unless the score is tied at 2-2, in which case one person wins one more game and wins the match at 3-2, which still has nothing to do with 5..OR like in Tennis winning 2-1 = 1 set point, and 3 set points wins the match...please explain:confused:

One day tournaments are Fantastic. Two day events are good too. You just don't want to disrespect the lesser players by pushing the entry fee to their limits, because it is these individuals who participate in tournaments that should be catered to.

I think a couple of other stats are equally important to the number of days and the entry fee, such as how deep do they pay in the tournament as this could easily be relative to how much money I am willing to risk.

Also, is there a Calcutta?

USTA format/PROVEN/WORKS....(tennis your serve and I receive, next game I serve you receive). Pool, you break first set, I rack first set. You rack second set I break second set and so on. So if the set score is tied 2-2, like tennis then Sudden Death. Lag, winner breaks, race to 1.

If the score is tied two sets apiece and each set had the max 3 games per set, then a total of 12 games will of been played. Games average 5-9 min each (I know some last longer and many 5-6 minutes). So if each game took 9 minutes....9x12 games equals 108 minutes + tiebreaker.

I'm sure there would be a few sets tied @ 2-2 that totaled only 8 or 9 or 10 games. If it is a quick set 8 games....which benefits everyone that equals 72 minutes + tiebreaker.

Matches that finish early will open up the next of round players to play to start early. With someone racking and another breaking in 8 ball the match will move along ALLOT quicker, probably a minute + will be gained each rack. In the evening sessions (cash rounds) there will be many tables open to either gamble on or for the regulars who come out on a Sat. night which is EXACTLY what the room owner wants/needs and it opens table for players than want to match up.

Fridays are family nights after the long work week, Sundays are family and church days for many. By not effecting any weekend night business of the room owner, and by not needing to get a hotel, and not effecting family time....it gets rid of SunDAZE.

If you win 3 rounds your in the cash, what's not too like. No longer would you have to wait 4-5 hours for your next match, no longer would you be up 18-20 hours of hanging around the first day of play, and no longer would you have to finish Saturday play that extended into Sunday morning, only to go back to the hotel and play again that same morning or noon. No longer would you have to play Sunday on little sleep.

If the best player gets knocked out the first round he's gone from your bracket, and from the event. Hell the number one seeded woman in the world at the 2017 French Open just got knocked out the 1st round.

How many tournaments have you ran under this format already?

Nust so you know, I've worked in the bar industry for over 30 years and I'mhere to tell you, Saturday's are normally the most productive sales days for bars without having pool tournaments, and a tournament on Saturday is going to pushout the regulars coming in already.

Really, I never remember ANY pool rooms being full during the day hours on Saturdays, tho towards dinner time rooms begin to fill up.

If ya win three matches, your in the quarter finals and have a shot at payouts such as this, with a $6,400 total prize fun minus TD and table fees (guesstimate).

1st $1,800
2nd $1,100
3rd $900
4th $700
5th $500
6th $500
7th $250
8th $250

Wouldn't it be nice to win 3 rounds and be guaranteed one of these payouts?

I know $400 is missing from the above numbers.

But this thread was just asking a question about a one day event.

I know you have a Great idea, so lets' hear your idea in Another Thread.

I'm just looking for OPINIONS on this Proven Match Play format that tennis offers for pool.

Would you rather play, or be gone, or wait for your next match that your NEVER sure when it's actually going to be called.

Hanging out alllllllllllllll day, and allllllllllllll night doesn't appeal to many that have a life. Playing with no rest sucks.

After being up 18-20 hours to get thru your first day of play.... and then have you play 8 hours later the same day. Its not fair to the players, the venue or the final product of match play that should be at its peak performance in the semis and finals.

So your game plan involves nothing but the players money?

I did not mention added money because that was not the subject of this thread.

Who/What is the targeted/audience attraction?

I don’t follow tennis enough to know where tennis is played in a non-pro,
non-subsidized, and having a cash payout tournament format; nothing wrong with
adapting certain rules from the format of tennis though, like the “net” call, drives one
person that I know crazy when called/invoked when inbounding the cue ball.

Like golf, when there are many players from the local/amateur scene, flight(ing) the
field spreads the wealth of accomplishment quickly.

You are trying to appeal to the masses, not the 9's, grandmasters, pro's and such, right?

EVERYONE.....tennis rules are the same from the bottom up.

Watch the French Open if you want to get a feel for this PROVEN format for heads up, one on one match play of two players going at it.

It's exciting and it works, to not try something new for the sport is why we keep on the same path.

…man, you’re losing me on watching the French open to learn about a tournament
format; tennis is about physical endurance with mental ability to sustain an 80 mph
return curving to the good side of the line, a lot like the POTUS T 11th hr. return,
they’re still talking about it.

Back to formats, cash, desire, abilities and capitalism, the evils of the world…
