Would any one share via this post or via PM on a diagram or plans to build my own saw blade shaft machine. I have always wanted to build one but have never seen one in action or up close.
Thanx ,
Jim Lee

Nice pics Joey. That Datum machine look slike a beast. Any one else have some details or diagram/plans to help me out?
Thanx again,
Jim Lee

Hears mine I built , vary simple design works great. you need a good saw to start with , I bought this one for 100.00 dollars and put new bearings and balanced pulleys on it it runs smooth as silk . next your drive motors are important I paid over 750.00 for the two . why you ask because they are small in size and vary vary strong , last they have variable speed . you will need a 60 tooth blade with a flat top grind , I have a place that will sell you a new blade and custom grind it for around 75.00 bucks. Atlas saw in Spring Grove Ill . hope this helps. D Hill

Mr Hill,
What size is the lead screw you made?
Where did you get the 1/2 nut assembly from?
Thanks, Neil

The lead screw is 5/8-11 and the half nut assembly is off a mini lathe , little machine shop sells all the parts. I did have to retap the half nuts , I got creatived and used parts from different machines.

What speed range are your motors ? Did the cost include the DC Controller ? thanks, Jim

Speed range is 100-500 RPM and I run slow, slow, slow... the motors are 36 volt I got two controllers and one power supply that powers up both motors. Anaheim Automation in Cal is were I got them . I went round and round to find these motors.

Thanx Mr. Hill, your machine is the type I am after. I really do not even need cnc controllers, manual would suit my needs with stop switches. Thanx again for posting!

Jim, I'm glad to help a fellow cue maker. I take so much pride in building machines , so I can build some super great cues . look at how clean my my stuff is , that's pride all American pride .

Hi,

You will need 2 Dc Motor controllers. CNC uses stepper motors that won't do the job in this application. Controllers are mounted the the box on the side of the machine and eliminate the need for gearing or pulleys to control you speed. With vernier control over your lathe and lead screw speeds. With this control, you can get shafts that are perfect without any flaws or line groves in the contour.

I have two machines. One was built by Darrin and is the same as his pic and a Bludworth that Darrin and I converted from a CNC to a manual with the auto stop. Blud's machine was great and I got a lot of shaft tapers on a file from him. I only build my parabolic tapper and I would rather have the manual machine with control over the machine elevation function during the process from start to end.

Before you take on a project like this you should talk to Darrin about building you one. There is a lot of time & stuff to manage and it might be easier just to have one built. His machines rock!!!

These saw machines are also great for tapering butts. I have one for shafts and one for butts. My butt machine has a parabolic taper and I cut my wrap groove with the saw and just cut in the steps with in my big lathe. This keeps the parabolic contour of the butt taper consistent with the wrap groove.

I checked out their Website and was impressed ,thanks. I was wondering if your motors were Brush or Brushless type ? Just trying to make sure I am getting the right thing. thanks, Jim
