SBE...What did you buy?

Seeing that someone bought finger sliders reminded me of a match I played in terrible humidity.

My opponent had the advantage of a glove but I've never been comfortable with one. Conditions were so bad that I asked the barkeep to give me a quarter coin wrapper.

After dropping the coin wrapper over my shaft, stroking through the wrapper-finger bridge was smooth as silk. My unorthodox bridge helped me to run a lot of racks and also seemed to unhinge my opponent.

I won that tournament and that wrapper became part of my gear.
 
I bought a new moori medium for my playing cue. A cheesesteak and fries, a few beers, and some nachos. Don't buy the scallops from chumley's unless you plan on spending about 10 bucks for 3 scallops.

On Wed. I found a cue that made me curious about the price. The price was not listed on the cue until later in the week. The points were far from perfect but it was still a decent looking custom. I figured the price was going to be some where in the hunderds. It took me till Friday to find the cue again, this time it had a sold sticker on it and it sold for 1,400. I was shocked that someone would pay that for this cue but alas, what people do with their money is their business. Still intrigued by this stand, the seller, not the cue maker, was kinda shady and showed me one of their sneakys and tried to convince me that it is a great deal. Upon further inspection I found the tip to be damaged and the ferrel to be cracked. He tried to say it was just dirt and could be cleaned. This was not the case. I became annoyed and left the expo that day.

All in all I had a good time.
 
I had a great time at the SBE. I also spent a bunch of money. This is what I purchased:

2010 8 point Sugartree (brand new, just delivered)
Diamond Pro-Am barbox (the complete kit)
a picture from the Ride the Nine booth
I had 4 shafts re-tipped with Kamui Black Soft tips
a few t-shirts for me
a few t-shirts each for my twin boys
2 moose head bridges for friends
food
and a whole lot of beer

Scored me the McDermott big boy shaft with jump butt--Plays awesome! Not only is the hard leather tip (mixed with resin) easy to pot some jump shots, but I was actually able to pull off jump-masse shots! Leather tip on a jump cue has SO much more control.

Bought me the "Edge" break cue from Jacoby. The break for its price works unbelievably well. The guys at the booth actually went through the trouble of going through 5 different bolts to screw inside the cue to make the weight to my liking. They even gave me a deal to offset the cost of replacing the phenolic tip with a Samsara break tip (incredible tip!). I will def buy from the Jacoby booth again based on my service experience alone.

Bought the magic rack pack and used it at my league match last night. People were praising how well it worked in making a perfect rack every time regardless of the condition of the cloth or abused spot sticker for the head ball.

Put a down payment on a Robertson custom sneaky pete. The unfinished butt had the most highly figured bocote wood I've ever seen. I can just imagine what its gonna look like with the finish and ring work he's gonna put on.

A few boxes of blue diamond chalk and that's about it. I got everything I sought out to shop for and couldn't be happier!
 
I was not a big shopper this year. I bought some stabilized holly from the wild woods people. A piece of cocobolo from Bell and a leather wrap jig from Unique.

And lots of beer and Crown Royal.
 
I bought a T-Shirt to support Sarah Rousey, a new case, and a LOT of beer!

I bought a bunch of clothes from Ride The Nine - Linda and Morgan always have the perfect tasteful and comfy clothes. My wife got a vest with faux fur fringe and a matching hat that is the nuts.

I got some baby Ts and one new T from PoolTees - Jake rocks it with the vintage logo looks.

I got a wicked modern design shirt from Runoutmedia as well as a Venom video - Venom came over and messed around on our nine foot table and he is the the REAL DEAL. You will never see anyone as amazing as this kid shot for shot in your life.

I bought two magic racks from TroyRoy - they work great! But I kept losing them as they are clear - will not have that problem at home.

I also bought a leather wrap from Steve Lomax - his work is IMMACULATE. Amazingly clean and precise. Unfortunately the wrap job was not for my cue. :-(

Trades:

I got a Fellini, an old 3x6 tooled Porper, a Brian Bonner, a soft It's George, an old flyrod case (similar to the AE Schmidt cases posted here).

And I got - not pool related but still due to being at VF - a tattoo by Jay, aptly named tattoosbyjay on here. Jay is an amazing artist and student of both the art of tattooing as well as pool. Walk in his shop and the first thing that you see is a triple shimmed Brunswick. Jay's art and the art of others lines the walls and fills the shelves. You immediately get the feeling that you are in the shop of a master. Jay will be the next big thing in cue cases as his tooling is as good as his tattooing. He tools and tattoos on leather. Thanks Jay!

I would have liked to buy more stuff BUT I had two limitations; time and my wife's glare! :-)

thanks john i appriciate that , it was great meeting you and your wife i had a great time tattooing you guys, wish we had more time to hang out and shoot pool, next year we will have to make plans for sure:) and for those of you who have not met john and his wife they are really great people down to earth and cool to hang out with and his cases really are stunning in person
