These are entirely different events.
SBE is all about the convention. Tons of vendors and great products.
DCC is all about the action. Pro events, gambling, etc.
In other words, the answer to your question really depends on what you're after.
It is a good event. You have a little bit of everything there.
They have one of the biggest pool expos in the world taking place in the conference center, with pool vendors offering just about anything pool related you can think of -- and then some.
There are tournaments for players of all caliber: male pros, female pros, amateurs, seniors. youth under 18, pro am, et cetera.
Of course, some people just go for the action, which takes place on the bottom level. It is, in fact, one of the best action experiences for all pool peeps because the shooters and railbirds interact, almost simultaneously. You have to be there to understand it, I guess.
This is one pool happening that covers it all.
Of course, seeing Allen Hopkins out and about is kind of neat, too!
I have not attended the Derby City Classic at the new venue which is the Horseshoe Casino. There are many tournaments going on simultaneously, and I found that when I did go to the week-long event, it was non-stop action: tournament and gambling. There are some vendors there, too, but not as many vendors there as the SBE.
If you do go to the DCC, make sure you have plenty of sleep. You'll need it to keep up with the festivities. You won't know which one to choose from, as there are so many.
