I'm new to azb and this is my very first post :DI've been playing pool for about 5 years (seriously for 2). I'm no world beater, but play decently... bca 8ball sl8 and apa 9 ball sl7. I've been using a lucasi hybrid with the 11.75 zero flex shaft for the past two years. its the only cue I've ever used( other than a house cue) and i like it, BUT I've been thinking id like to try some other cues out to find out what i REALLY like. i know that schmelke is made in america (always good ) and that you can pretty much customize your cue from them. seems like a lot of bang for the buck... they offer both a conventional shaft and a laminate shaft. does anyone here have any experience with schmelke and either of their shafts??? Thanks.

I love them and I have played with McDermott, JOSS, Viking, Meucci, Josswest, and Dominiak, but I keep going back to the Schmelke for one reason or another. The first picture is 2 Schmelkes I have had for 41 years and had them refinished by Schmelke. The one with the leather wrap I paid $50 for. The second picture is one that I bought about 3 years ago, it's now my daily player. I paid $260 with 2 shafts for this one. I have always used conventional shafts so I cannot compare them for you. They are a good bang for the buck.

What's your opinion of their brass joints? i know they also offer uniloc which is what I'm used to...

The 2 older cues have the big brass joints, the newer one has their Joint #3 5/16 x 18 Brass pin with insert. I have no problem with either one. Although I have not been able to get joint protectors for the older brass joints.

Nice ones, especially the older ones :)

excellent quality cues at incredibly low prices makes Schmelke one of the best (maybe *the best*) values around

Welcome to the forum.

Although I've never really played with their cues, they look like a hell of a deal, and
David Schmelke is great to work with

great cues. I occasionally play with my fathers old Schmelke that I keep at my house. Would play with it more but it has a nylon wrap that is killer on the hands.

I had one and I hated it due to the mass of the joint. The joint was so heavy that it destroyed the feel and balance of the cue. If they've moved on to a different joint that wasn't so heavy the rest of the cue was fine.

I always liked Ray Schuler cues due to the fact that the joint Ray used was feather light. It never affected the balance of the cue.

I special ordered a 30" full splice rosewood into rosewood butt with light brown phenolic
joint and butt cap, with a 3/8-10 G10 pin. Also ordered a 32" shaft for it with a modified
euro taper and a 3/8" long ferrule at 11.3 mm.
Total cost was less than $350. Very reasonable, and great people to deal with.

I special ordered my break cue from Shmelke a couple of years ago. 30" butt (maple) and 30" purpleheart break shaft. 3/8x10 joint. The people I dealt with were great. The cue is nicely balanced and well made and a great value for what I spent.

I really like the look of that cue. Some of the options you specified don't seem to be available on the Schmelke website
(light brown joint collar for instance.) Did you order this by phone? Or have I just not explored their website sufficiently?

Yes I ordered by phone. Just tell them what you want.
For some reason, they could not install the wrap as far back
as shown, so I had Southeast Cues do that for me.

From what I've learned you are WAY better off calling schmelke to place an order... way more options.
