Hey guys I am looking for new sneaky pete.

Schmelke I can get for around $180 with all I want while Bob Fray Sneaky Pete is $440 with all I want.

Did anybody had a chance to play with both cues, is it big difference?

Buy the Schmelke, and buy directly from them, not a cue Pimp!!! You can get a great looking peice of wood, any pin you want, and they are also great people to deal with.

Why spend the extra money!!!!

Cue Pimp? Don't think I've heard that one before. Do they have a certain walk, style of hat, and love old Cadillac Eldorados?

In a recent thread someone asked what cue he should buy for under $150. I recommended a Schmelke, sneaky pete. That being said, I play with a Frey and use it much more than my Schmelke. It has a slightly "crisper" hit, in my opinion. Either way, you will have a great wand.

No, however, ever thing they sell, has the best hit, the best balance, the best feel, and the buyer will not even get a reach around!!!!! :D Every body wants to promote their products like nothing compares, and this is true Pimpin in it's finest!!!!;)

Oh and by the way, most them call their significant other Szamboti, Schick, Searing, or Tad:eek: :p to compensate for the lack of having these items to Pimp and they reserve Balabushka for their own tool!!!!!!!:D

Hope this clears my statement up, have a nice day!!!!!

I would not call him a Pimp, while he may be dressed the part, if you look closely, the Female directly behind him is holding a change attached to his Butt Plug!!!!!  :D I also think that is why he is walking that way in the first place!!!!!;)

My post was not meant in anyway to discredit Frey cues, however, there is nothing wrong with saving some money, and basically a Sneaky Pete is a Sneaky Pete. As for a crisp hit, that is very subjective, and we have different tastes.

oh and by the way, you may be surprised how much a Tip and ferrule can change the hit of any cue.

Have a good day!!!!!

I respectfully disagree. Lately, all I have been buying is sneaky petes from different cue makers .... and they don't hit the same at all. In general, they do hit similar to cue maker's more fancy work. Of course, a lot has to do with shaft tapes, ferrule, tip, joint and butt taper.

I see "Schmelke" (full splice blank) as more of an art canvas where each "artist/cuemaker" can express their version of the "art" that will hit a ton.

This does not mean folks at Schmelke can't produce a nice cue.

Is there a BIG difference or can a price differential be justified???? I don't think there is a right answer for this as we have different value system.

I can't argue with the value with a Schmelke. On the other hand, I really love my Frey SP. Plays great.

Some man came into the pool hall today and started tapping my Frey cue(the shaft particularly) on the ground, not realizing it was a SP and thinking it was a house cue. The Frey is obviously a nice looking cue. The cue was sitting on the table next to me, as I broke with my Jacoby cue. I literally threatened the mans life. I almost cracked. I would have, if there was any damage done to the cue. This would have been bad for a variety of reasons, as the man was like 30 years my senior(I'm 29.)

But to get back on the subject, despite my Frey being an amazing cue... I'm going to invest in a Schmelke for occasions when I feel my Frey may be in a threatening environment. The aforementioned altercation was completely unexpected, considering that there was only two people in the pool hall other then myself... Then this 70 year man walks in with sunglasses and says "Hey everyone I'm a blind man," picks up a my cue and starts pretending its a cane and he is a blind man poking it on the ground.... he left quickly, after I threatened his life.

Oh well... sorry if I got off topic. I needed to do some venting... In anycase, I like my Frey enough to kill an old man over. At the same time, i've hit with a schmelke... and for the money you can't argue at all. Both are great cues, for their respective prices. Just depends how much money you want or got to spend. If the Frey isn't going to break your bank, I'd go with it. You won"t be disappointed!

Jazz, the problem I have with Sneaky Petes in general is that they all are Full Splice Blanks. Now there is not a great deal you can do with a Sneaky Pete, other than Taper of the butt and shaft, Tip and ferrule, and the cues pin / joint type. Now we all know any of those things can effect a cues hit a great deal, but in many cases the tip and ferrule alone can change a dog into a player. Schmelke, will build the cue to your specifications, If you want the cue butt / shaft tapered a certian way give them the measurments, if you want a certain tip and a capped ferrule let them know, if you want a wood to wood piloted joint they will do it, my point is you may be surprised what they will do if someone asks. But the best thing is even modified the cue will cost at least cose to 50% less than other Sneaky Petes with a name, and the chance are good also that they may have made the blank in the first place, not saying this is always the case.

No disrespect intended, just my opinion!!!!

Have a good night JaZZ

Funny, this just reminded me, 10 years ago, I had my playing stick on a table next to us, and I turn around, it's gone. Look around the room, and in the back there is a group of kids, one of them has my 6 point Joss leaning against the table. Bit hard not to notice the difference between a house stick and that, but they managed.

That's why my cue is either in my hand, leaning in the rubber cue-leaning-holder-thing, or on the table I'm playing on.

Bob Frey is a custom cuemaker... is can make it the way you want it as well. And you are paying for the quality that goes into the cue... Bob Frey does great work. I have 2 Frey Sneaky Petes. I gave away the one Schmelke I had.

Also, Jon Nusbaum is one of the best 'cue pimps' (dealers) around. Have dealt with him a couple times (both Freys actually and a fancy Samsara) and will more then likley do it again I'm sure.
