The Schemelke that I bought is a ONE-PIECE cue, not standard 2 pice cue.

Then why did you ask about sneaky petes?? Are you just going to play at home or keep the cue at the venue that you play the most at, or what?????

Bob Frey is a custom cuemaker... is can make it the way you want it as well. And you are paying for the quality that goes into the cue... Bob Frey does great work. I have 2 Frey Sneaky Petes. I gave away the one Schmelke I had.

Also, Jon Nusbaum is one of the best 'cue pimps' (dealers) around. Have dealt with him a couple times (both Freys actually and a fancy Samsara) and will more then likley do it again I'm sure.

I under stand that Mr. Frey is a custom cue maker, however, are the Blanks he is using blanks he made? I have no problem with Mr. Frey or his cues, I have seen or used one, however, I assume they play great by your comments, which I respect!! But a Sneaky Pete play is just that, outside of Paul Heubler, I know of none currently making their own Full Spliced Blanks for themselves. By dealing with a Company that makes it own blanks you get a big bang for you dollars. You may have to make a a modification, IE, the tip but all specific things can be done by the manufacturer. I am not trying to kick anyones business, but I think that Sneaky Petes can also be manufactuered very well by some one like Schmelke, and the average person can also save a great deal of money in the process. I also think that people should know they have this option!!

Thanks for you opinion!!!

hands down on the Frey. You MAY catch a good one with the Schemelke, but generally, the quality of shaft wood will be better with bob's. I have one from Bob that Jimmy Fusco told me to get years ago (say early 90's). Wrap and everything. Nice little cue. Cocobolo 3/8thx10 joint, two shafts (old aegis). PM if you are interested.

I'm not sure if he makes his own blanks or not. From hsi wood selection and time he has been doing it with/for Tim Scruggs I would say yes. Don't forget about the joint as well. That plays a huge part in how the cue plays. Even if Frey did use a blank it would still be your choice on the joint style.

And besides, Bob's a custom cuemaker who trained under and works with Timmy Scruggs. I'd rather go with a blank assembled and finished by him then just another company. That's just me though.

This Post has been interesting, and I have to admit that the phrase "Cue Pimp" is very original, and a funny as hell. It seems members of the AZ forum have some very original ways of expressing themselves.:) :) :) JP

PS With you guys permission I may just have a lapel pin made with the wording "Cue Pimp" and wear it at Valley Forge.

Schmelke, will build the cue to your specifications, If you want the cue butt / shaft tapered a certian way give them the measurments,
So if I have an existing cue that I like, what butt/shaft measurements would I take (to provide to Schmelke)..?

i heard from someone that bob fray uses shmelke blanks. anyone think there's any truth to this?

Absolutely. Most of the great cuemakers who make sneakys use Schmelke blanks.

I just want to comment. I have within the last 5 months had both a Frey and a Schmelke that I ordered to my specs. In all honesty neither cue ultimately suited me. I'm not knocking either one, but each one was 'off' for my personal likes.

The person who commented that a cue, specifically a sneaky, is differentiated by the taper, the tip and ferrule, the joint, and the balance and overall dimensions is SOOOOOOO correct. First I tried a Hill sneaky that I really liked, as did all my friends. Next I asked Paul Dayton to make me a sneaky that would play just like my players cue that he made for me. He did, and it's PERFECT ! A majic wand ! This cue could give either the Frey or the Schmelke the 7 Ball , and it's a Schmelke blank.

Just as the hit of a cue is totally subjective, so is taper and playability. Most of us can adapt to many cues, but if we try enough we can find one that's almost perfect for us...Tom

Cue Measurement's:

Note all measurements must be taken with Calipers!!

Butt:

1. Measurement at the joint

2. Next- cue with a wrap, where the wrap meets the forearm.

3. Last- the end of the Butt Cap.

Shaft:

1. The Tip

2. Next- 12 inch from the tip (in most cases the same Pro-taper)

3. Next-16 inch from the tip

4. Next- 24 inch from the tip

5. the joint collar

These measurements will put you on target.

Hope this helps

The best SP I've played with is a Shawn Putnam cue. My buddy also bought one from him and it's nicer than mine. $200 area.
