"Schon 13" shaft????

Hey all,

Does anybody out there have one of the older Schon shafts with "Schon 13" on the joint collar? (example pic below):

I just picked up a sweet little player's cue (awaiting I.D. info from Evan now) that came with a "Schon 13" shaft. I'd like to have another one, and thought I'd see what was out there. My cue has the older style joint pin...with no threads at the very top (about 1/4 inch), and have heard rumors that the newer shafts won't fit. Not sure if that's true or not...but regardless, I'd prefer to have one of the older ones anyway, just so they match.

MUST be straight, MUST be 12.5mm or greater, and would PREFER it be 4oz or more in weight.

I believe you're right, sir. And the one I DO have isn't 13mm anymore...but it's straight as an arrow and has some incredibly dense wood. Mine is at 12.5mm, and still a touch over 4oz.

A "Schon" labelled shaft similar to the one in my pic would probably be just fine...if I can find one that's straight, 4oz+, and at/over 12.5mm.
 
The 13 does mean 13 mm,and can be bought today.

I talk with Evan cClark frequently,he is making me a couple of custom Box Cues now,

He has the best shaft wood that he has ever had right now,call schon and get a new shaft,there have never been better schon shafts than these new ones,you can believe this.

regardless of what the 13 means, that stamp on the shaft was used for one year. 1993 was the year of that schon stamp if I remember correctly.
 
I've heard from a couple folks that think I can use a new Schon shaft on my cue without a problem. Anybody know...FOR SURE...if this is true? I know that the older R-series ones have had "fit issues" with new shafts...but does anybody know if this issue pertains to the early/mid 1990's cues?

I DID test fit one of my Steve Klein shafts on the Schon butt...and it fit just fine. This lends me to believe I'm good to go with a new shaft...but not certain.

I suppose if a new shaft would fit on my Schon butt...I'm in the market for a STRAIGHT, SOUND, 4oz or more, 12.75-13mm Schon shaft.

WOULD PREFER THE SCHON IV (Ivory Ferrule)...if I can find one for less than retail.
 
That pin was only used for one year. You might want to check the pitch as not all 5/16x14 are the same. Sounds odd, I know. Example: you can put a Runde shaft on a Schon, but not the other way around. Both are 5/16x14. They put Schon on the shafts because, at the time, there where fake Schon shafts on the market. The marking went from the collar on the shaft to the shaft itself. I see them on Ebay a lot.

Not sure if the info will apply directly to your cue - however - I have a 1993 Schon cue with the unususal pin and a Schon 13 shaft. The pin is different than most Schon's as it has no threads for the last quarter inch or so, and has a conical indentation in the end.

I have heard this was to make it easy to chuck up on a lathe and obtain a quick and accurate center. Our league team captian has the same pin on her Schon.

Regular (i.e... new) Schon shafts fit on both cues just fine with no interferience problems at all.
