Schon Cues

Schwinn,
I think that the standard shaft that comes with a Joss is way too thick (13.25) for my taste. Schon comes with a 13mm. They both have a steel joint and a similar hit. I like that the butt is a bit slender on the Schon, and the balance seems a bit better...but some prefer the Joss. If you can try them both, that would be my best recommendation.
Thanks,
Matt

You can easily ask for a smaller size Joss shaft if you don't like 13.25mm. Either the dealer that you get your Joss cue from will exchange it for you, or you can contact Joss Cues directly and they will exchange it for you free of charge. Whichever cue you choose between a Joss and a Schon, you cannot go wrong.

I posted this schon in another thread, but this one is getting more play :D

Does anyone who has been collecting schon catalogs know what series this came from? It is an older schon, but the points aren't spliced so I know its not a Runde. I really would like to know what year/model number this cue is... the guy who sold it to me didnt know for sure.

Does anyone know if I send the pic to schon if they will respond in a timely matter with the info?

Chuck

It wasn't in my materials. It's pretty close to the SL 16 from the mid 1990's but I couldn't find an exact match. If you e-mail Evan, he is very good about responding. info@schoncues.com

Also, any comments on how Schons play in comparison to Joss would be helpful if you've owned both.
Thanks!

I own both and if you polled 100 guys that also owned both 50 would say Joss and the other 50 would say Schon. They both feel very good. The difference has been as stated with Schon having a thinner butt. I find no problems with the Joss shaft though.

That having been said, I think a better feeling cue over both is the Mosconi collection cues from Adam and the workmanship and designs are classic. Man, these suckers feel great!! (made in Japan or not!)

I just realized I made a boo-boo...they're not made by Adam, but by Competition Sports. Go to: www.competitionsports.com to the bottom right side of the page and click onto Mosconi collection.

Well if they're a production cue made in Japan..they can't be good. Right? I mean the Japanese aren't known for the quality and excellence of their products...are they? ;)

That is correct. Jap is junk...I must have gotten lucky. :D BTW...does any electronics manufacturer put out better products than made in Japan Sony that you can think of?

You 2 are both saying the same thing sarcastically, yet you seem to think you disagree... Are you just afraid to say Japanese Cues are good because you fell you will be looked down upon by all the Cue makers and Collectors in this Forum... LOL

If I'm not mistaken, Competition Sports now makes (or maybe just distributes?) Adam cues.

And, FWIW, the Balabushka line of cues from Adam is one of the best mass produced cue with which I've had the pleasure of whacking balls.

Fred <~~~ could be mistaken

They make some nice automobiles too. My Acura is the most dependable car I've ever owned (second to the one I had before this one).....I drive em' to the wheels fall off and that is a LONG time. The Japanese have a lot of pride in anything they do, and strive for excellence. It is a part of their culture.

I don't think you're mistaken about either sentence. I agree..except that you now have to try the Mosconi Collection. I got the one that's a remake of the AH-26 Monte Carlo cue by Adam from the 70's. GORGEOUS cue!!

my $.02 worth of opinion schon-joss

i would agree: apples and oranges!! i have a schon, a new joss, a real old joss and some others. the schon is about15 years old or so. the joss is much newer. they both hit great! i would give the edge for ME to the schon. but to qualify that i have to say i have had it for 12 years or so, the joss for 2 to 3 years. i have worn the linen wrap on the schon so terribly slick i finally got it redone. i had been shooting with all of my other cues- an old doc fry, two espiritus, the newer joss and a recent buy- a very, very old ivory jointed joss(pre split probably). after the schon was redone, even though all of the other sticks hit great, they were all resigned to the closet or the locker. i have nothing but respect for both joss and schon cues!!

Here's an even better link with more pictures and cues.

Nice looking cues.

That is a much better link. I am really impressed with this cue. Aside from the hit of a full splice cue, which is kinda unique, I'd put this up against anything or any cue makers cue as far as the solid hit and feedback. I think you'd be hard pressed to find something much better. The shaft fits in the butt really tight...you have to give a good strong turn for the last revolution or so and it just kind of clicks in. I don't know if that's what adds to the solidness, but it seems like the case.
