Schon: How do YOU like them?

I have an older SR-16 that plays exceptionally well. If you like the hit of a stainless steel joint, you can't go wrong. Schons are very good cues. Have tried any number of cues, and did not switch from the Schon until I got my Whisler full-splice. IMHO, my Whisler hits even better than the Scruggs I own.

I think they are made really great, but for me they hit too freaking stiff. I think that is why so many people put predator shafts on them.

Just my opinion though, but I will probably get a lot of flack for it. LOL

That is what I like about them. I've used one for 7 years now and love it. In fact, just bought another.

Schon

I got mine at the last BC Open. I've been playing with it ever since. If you want a solid hitter with great craftmanship, then you won't go wrong getting a Schon.

I shot with an SL-11 for several years. At the time it was the best hitting cue I'd ever used. Quality seemed to be very high for what most people would call a production cue. I especially liked the joint because it seemed so solid.

I probably would still have it if it weren't for Tim Scruggs. I got to hit with a Scruggs Sneaky one day, and I was so impressed that I bought the Scruggs and sold my Schon the same day. I paid over $900 for the Schon, and only $150 for the Scruggs, but it was definitely an upgrade.

New Schon owner, I'm biased.

I bought Schon STL 01,I wanted to check out the hit with a ss joint.I had been playing with a Mcdermott. First impression was not good, I ended up breaking with it, it hit extremely stiff with the medium hard tip it came with. Then I decided to have a Moori soft tip put on it and oh my what a sweet cue it is now! It plays very well, the balance and feel instill confidence in every stroke. I would recommend a Schon to anyone (right after a Barry Cameron custom).
By the way I have the Mcdermotts I played with listed in the for sale section if anyone is interested ( just cant play with them anymore).
I had the same experience going from a McDermott to a Schon. I bought a used SP49 from the 1990's to replace my McD/Universal Smart shaft combo and haven't looked back. It hits great, looks great, feels great in my hand. What else do you need to know. Get one, you'll love it.

BTW, see the post from Gerry, ". The fact is that we are one of the oldest custom cuemakers in the world with a total staff today of 5 people. I personally design, finish and test every cue myself." – Evan Clarke
So if Tim Scruggs hires a few people and sells more cues per year, is he considered a "production cue"?

I have two Schons. One Is my main player( bottom cue in my avatar), the other I bought for a former friend who decided after the fact that he didn't want it (top cue in my avatar). It's barely been played with.
They both hit very nice. I am very pleased with them.

I used the Same Schon in your Avatar for awhile (bottom cue) I really liked it, Schon is a good cue... no doubt there. while I prefere Joss, Schon is one of the better cues Ive owned.

i am seriously thinking my next cue is going to be a Schon. possibly a CX-02 as i like the design, and the price is good too.

right now the two best hitting cues i have are my Chad Carter Custom with the ivory joint and ferrule, and my Nova Custom with the stain. steel joint. if i ever get to hook up with Nick Varner i will probably go with the Chad Carter cue since he is also from Owensboro.

however, with dental bills, house insurance, and property taxes who knows when i might be able to seriously consider buying a cue..........

R1- Love it.

My current main player is a older Schon R-1. I my opinion, you would be hard pressed to find a better playing cue if a SS joint is what you like.

Schon's are really great cues

Been playing with Schon's since 1990 and will not change period. I prefer the older schon shafts, so i've collected a couple old shafts over the years that i will never sell. Went from SL-3 to an SL-4 and now I play with a Schon Elite with 6 hand spliced points that I absolutely love. The best thing is that ALL 3 of these cues hit the same. The consistency of Schon's are uncompromised.

i have an older schon not sure what model but it hits great and i like it so much that when i get enough money after i buy a break cue im going to pick up another one

yes !

I bought a schon Ltd about four years ago. I really like it alot. They
run a little heavy 19 - 20 oz.. But that's what I like. Nice cues. Just
bought a jacoby off of Highrun55 . It also is heavy 19.5, balance
point a little different but feels great.

I've owned a couple schons, and think they play great. Also like Evan Clarke.

wish I had my last one back. Keeping hoping it'll come up for sale.

Only schon I've ever owned that I didn't care for, as far as hit, was one of the ebony sneaky petes. All the rest I have loved.

i thought they were over priced until i played with one.i was in a rut, just thinking my game was really bad.then i borrowed a friends schon and starting playing better than i ever have.for my money they are the best cues.by the way, whoever called them a production cue is way off base.

I think they're a good bang for the buck. Great quality and appearance. I loved them 'til I hit one. I couldn't stand the hit, but if you like it, by all means, go for it. There are very few steel jointed cues that I like, anymore. The ones I've liked the most, were my Joss East and an Andy Gilbert that I only owned for a short time.

Initially they feel stiff, but I swear the shafts wear in after a while and then they play better than anything.

Had I not gotten my Jacoby, I would have gotten a Schon. They play great.

Ditto. I think my Jacoby has a balance point a bit forward from one on a Schon. But very comparable hit wise. Schons are possibly more pleasing to the eye, but looks alone don't make balls drop.
