IIRC, there was a thread long ago that hypothesized- perhaps even proved- that the smarter you is be, the mor likiley you ares to chok an dogg it.

Contrary to prior posts, I think this is right in line with the dogged shot.

It refers to driving a car or operatiing machenery...you are pretty much on autopilot with those tasks.

Where do the dogged shots happen??? on the easy shot.

How many times have you made it through the difficult portion of a rack only to dog one of the remaiing easy shots?

I equate the routine run out to the driving of a car.

When you miss a difficult shot, you rarely call it a "dogged" shot...You just missed a low percentage shot...

A "dogged" shot is one that would normally be "routine"

I see your point but I don't think it encompasses all dogged shots. To me, the dogged shot is the one that people ARE paying attention to. They're the shots that win games or matches. I don't think it's when the mind is at rest. I think it's when the mind is distracted.

I think that when the mind is at rest is when it is vunerable to being distracted.

Here is how this applies to me...I just navigate the difficult part of the rack, make the necessry break out, get perfect position on the 5 and have a no brainer out...(aka: routine out)....My mind goes into the (at rest) mode and the thought (distraction) "I'm Out" out pops into my head.

You guessed it....Dogged Shot.

Figure this next comment out...

I think that the extra focus you apply on tough racks distracts you from getting distracted... :)

EDIT: Regarding your comment of "shots that win games"....I think those are missed because of "nerves" that affect your phisical ability rather than distractions...(although I guess you could call nerves a form of distraction...but I think it is different than "going to sleep" on a shot)

Hmmm... I agree and disagree. I know I tend to play very well when I'm slightly nervous the entire time. Important team events typically do it. Perhaps my mind isn't going into rest-mode. However, I think excessive nervousness is also bad. I think the study has merit but I also think they're looking for specific answers.

HAHAHAHA, my brain is probably in rest mode most of the time while I am shooting...:eek: :eek: :confused: :(

You know... I believe it's the syntax of the title that caused us to read it the other way. The title ought to be... Scientist Discovers Why We Dog Shots... or Science Discovery: Why We Dog Shots... but we tripped over the OP's syntax and mis-read it. ;)
