Scott Frost's opinion about Predator tables

I hate diamonds, but I can't think of another new table I'd own besides a GC.
I'd save 50% and buy the "poorly made" Black Crown 2 made by Canada Billiards. Sure the lack of integrated leveling system is a significant con on the check list, but for the massive savings I'm ok with it.
If I was into spending stupid money on a table, it'd be an anniversary or centennial.
I'd probably go with Rasson if money wasn't a concern.

Close enough to flush for me. And no metal or rubber. I don't think I'd trade my Diamond for anything else.
Plus, the resale value is WAY better than anything else right now.

Right on. Nothing wrong with that. However calling it "flush" when it's clearly not, and when other manufacturers are clearly doing it better, is a tiny bit misleading imo

eh, ive never had the leather pockets on a diamond mess up my shooting, or heard of people that did either

and yeah, i love a table you would flip on a cart, wonder why all the valleys are like that

Never claimed they would for the record. Just that they are definitively not flush. I personally have dealt with excessive drag on my cue while the shaft slid across the leather. That may have been from a lack of cleanliness though.

Probably so the owners could move them in and out of locations renting them....lol. Does make you wonder why manufactures of beds don't integrate mattresses and box springs into one unit. Imagine how many more they could sell if you weren't forced to move those separate pieces around every time you decided to move your bed to a different spot in the room. Man, all sellers of very infrequently move products could learn something here.

I trust both Glen's and your opinions. However, I think RKC tends to focus his opinions in terms of commercial application. Which isn't bad, but maybe not all that necessary when declaring what will stand up over the course of time for home use.

I'm ok with being wrong there, and I've never taken the time to look under a Rasson so I have no dog in this fight.

I've never taken a Rasson apart either. I was just sharing what I have learned from talking to Glen and reading Glen's posts. 😉
I will admit being biased toward Diamond tables though, since I do play on them a lot.
I'm guessing the Rasson would probably be just fine for a home table that isn't re-covered every year.

Yeah no its just not as big a trigger for me , cheers

I love Diamonds, one of my favorite playing tables for sure. But, This is not flush. That little raised lip causes cueing issues when cueball lands in certain spots. For the price of these tables, it should be completely flush.

"Trigger" is wildly overstating... Just something I'd consider if I was willing to pour 10k out of my pocket for a table purchase.

I will admit that I'm more "triggered" by fanatical biased falsehoods being represented as fact. I don't like the naive being mislead.

I've only noticed the predator tables in the predator events. All the other big pro events are Diamonds or Rassons that I recall. I did hear the Vegas bar table event switched from Diamond to predator, and boy there was a ton a complaining. I just chalked that up to the way all the Valley players complained when Diamond came in... I've never played on the predator so I have nothing to comment about. I will say I do like the Diamonds, however, I recently played on Rasson which was definitely the best table I have ever played on.

The raised lip on the back is on purpose. It’s called the bi-level pocket, or something like that. It’s to keep the balls from flying out of the pocket when hit very hard. Diamond has had that since their beginning, I believe.

Very happy with my slightly used 9' Black Crown 2 that I bought for $2300 Canadian with a set of Aramith Duramith Tournament balls. Came out of a local hall that had 16 of them that went out of business. They go for about $6500 Canadian new. Pics of it setup in my new home room (daughter playing) and one of Billy Thorpe playing on one of them at a local tournament a few years ago. Perfectly flush pocket design.

Nice setup! How long ago did you pick that up and whereabouts? I'll be looking for a 9ft sometime this fall .

I play on a Rasson, at my local room. I cant imagine anyone buying a Rasson over Diamond or Brunswick. And I have not heard any positive feedback about the Predator tables.

So having played on Diamond, Brunswick and Rasson, my order would be:
  1. Diamond (most challenging)
  2. Brunswick (most fun to play on)
  3. Rasson (second most challenging)
  4. Predator, poor reviews and quality unknown (?)
  5. All other American brands currently (not making many good tournament tables)
  6. Chinese imports other than Rasson (totally hit or miss quality)

My list is only discussing 9' foot options. Please update me if I have omitted any other good options

It was a hall in Halifax, N.S., Canada (Railbirds). All the tables have been sold off, but some may be floating around, but likely not for as cheap as I got mine.
OK Thanks! We moved to NS last Sept to Fox Point Lake ( Hubbards) and in the process of building a new house. I've only been to Buddy's Poolhall and would like to find a decent place to go hit some balls and maybe get into a local tournament somewhere.
