Scotty Townsend Rumor

beat it russ

i guess i should watch what i say because i dont have enough posts but.... after reading this whole thread i cant believe playboy got banned for putting russ & vip in there place. no matter what language he used. ive been reading on this forum much longer than ive been a member. i rarely post because it seems like a headache. but someone tell me what the point of this or any forum is if you get banned for defending your question against some a$$es. i no longer want to be apart of a forum that supports or encourages anyone like russ. i understand that others feel like i do. im just disapointed that playboy wont be around and russ will. spewing elvis crap and dubya bs while hes miserable in iraq. i guess what i mean is put russ & vip in the corner with a couple of dunce caps on & let them sit there for a month or so. russ will still be in iraq & i think eveyone will be HAPPIER!

The world high diving federation considers a 177ft dive made in the mid-eighties from a cliff to be the world record for men with the woman's record being only in the 120's. There is no mention of the damage, if any, sustained in the dive.

Due to the simple physics of acceleration in a fall, 177 feet is a long ways short of 200 feet in terms of impact. If Scotty routinely jumps from 150-200 feet he can make far more money doing that than he can shooting pool. Move over Evel!

Four men were supposed to set a high dive record years ago. The height was only in the 120's if I remember correctly. One man ran the numbers for himself and proclaimed the dive impossible to do without injury. The other three did dive and all sustained substantial injury. A year or two later the bubble machine was introduced and four divers set the new world record, at around 140 feet if I remember correctly, and none were injured. The man that refused to make the lower dive without a machine did make this one without injury.

Note that the record high dive was from a cliff. Wave action is usually critical to these dives and again, although naturally this time, bubbles are created. I didn't really intend to make a big issue out of my comment but I'll stand behind it. The simple fact is that physics are on my side. Pool players often think that they can defy the laws of physics but I have never seen it actually done successfully.

I don't really want to take the time to look it up but I seem to remember that someone did the 192ish from a helicopter into the ocean.

I know that this is supposed to be about Scotty and Pool but here is a quick glimpse into the world of High Diving from cliffs.

I will agree with you though. While I have dove from 100ft in practice by myself without anyone splashing the water we always had splashers in the shows. For two reasons, one to break the tension and two, so that it was easier to distinguish the water from the sky.

I dont think VIP and russ should be lumped together like that.....
Sure VIP kinda came at the guy wrong ...but that isnt the norm for him at all.... I thought the OP was a little stupid at first .. but after hearing what this dude is really like...well.. the first post actually shows some merit.....

DOH...... There I go again, breaking my own rules... shoulda put this in the bi+ch about russ thread:D

I'm not a moderator and I don't want to be. But because of all the rancor on this thread about the eviction of Playboy, I read it all again.

I'm sorry but i just can't see where anything Russ or VIP (or Mike for that matter) said, deserved the outrageous response from Playboy. He could have easily handled it with a more tactful response, and gained the respect of forum posters.

He was like a timebomb ready to go off at any second. It sure didn't take much to make him explode. I've seen far worse on here in the last couple of years. And nothing like his expletive laced response.

I strongly suspect (as someone else said earlier) that this guy Playboy was destined to show his true colors sooner or later. He was going to blow up sometime. It just happened to be sooner.

I agree, great tits.

Sheeesh, I come home from the pool room, flop down in front of the computer and see there are about 50 more posts on what I think are about one of my favorite players, Scotty.

I was very dissapointed when instead of stories about Scotty, there is 2-3 pages of a pissing contest going on.

You guys sound like a couple of grade schoolers at recess screaming, "HE STARTED IT! NO, HE STARTED IT!

At least VIP has the class and common sense to step out of the discussion of finger pointing.

GIVE IT A BREAK, WILL YA?

Let's get back to the entertainment of Scotty Townsend.

Some of you guys sound like you might know who Playboy was. I would figure he has been here before under another persona. He was just to quick to go off. Like he already had a chip on his shoulder. I figured that he felt he was outted and he just self-destructed. He did seem to have some knowledge of the old timers. He wasn't no young pup.

Okay guys, I'm a newcomer to this forum and unless these guys were all face to face, I hear a lot of rhetoric. I think nothing can come of this conversation at this point but negative. Let's just call every action thus far behind us. Anyone actually had any pool action lately?

Well since you asked VIP attacked him first by saying his original post was asinine, so I would say VIP contributed also by his erroneously believing that Playboy's original post was asinine.

The truth is Playboy's post resulted in a lot of us getting incredible knowledge about Scotty Townsend. I was truly amazed by some of his Scotty's feats whether all true and accurate or not, he just may be the most amazing character in the pool world. Who is responsible for all of the colorful stories that resulted in this thread = Playboy. What did it get him. Banned. Why? Because some individuals decided to attack his question before those that knew Scotty could pipe in with even more incredible feats than biting a snake.

Was Playboy right for going off the deep end? No. Was he pushed? Yes

I completely agree it was a great thread. I completely agree Russ and VIP made a wrong assumption, and therefore are at fault for creating an issue when there did not need to be. I also made the same incorrect assumption, I just did not take it upon myself to express my feelings in case I was wrong (I knew Scotty was a character...and considered it could be true :p ).

What is interesting is that Russ did come back and temper his response. We all make poor assumptions about people from time to time. We all make mistakes. At least Russ, before anyone else posted, before there was an issue at all, went back and considered he possibly was wrong and altered his response so it was not quite as accusatory.

I would agree Russ initially caused a conflict. But Russ did not cause Playboy to be banned. Playboy did that to himself. Had Playboy simply stated the post was serious, called Russ a bozo and told him to butt out, and did not resort to the gay references and profanity and calling people lovers and insult the entire board, he would not have been banned.

If we all responded to people on here the way Playboy did, practically ALL of us would be banned...the kind of thing that Russ said goes on ALL the time.

Instead of people saying...I wish Playboy could have not went off the deep end, he may have been a valuable addition to the forum, we say instead...it is Russ's fault and ban him instead.

Wayne, its all good to me. No pissing here (to use a reference Stones used)...just sharing how I feel the situation should be looked at rationally.

I am surprised Scotty's legendary skill at tossing coins has not been brought up!

Let me ask you this Jay, if you had asked a question about some very colorful player in your first few visits to this forum and the first response called you a TROLL and several responses later you were told you were asinine or the question was asinine, would you have politely asked these posters to treat you in a kinder and gentler fashion? Somehow, I don't think so.

Secondly, if you had posted that someone's question made them sound like a Troll and an ass and shortly thereafter you found out that the question was not only not troll like but actually led to a very entertaining discussion of a very colorful character, would you have apologized for your stupid comments?
Somehow, I think you would. (Russ didn't)

I have seen people wrongly accused react very adversely many times, it is a ploy used by lawyers to get someone very angry and it works to their advantage.

Read Playboy's earlier posts and see if there was anything to indicate he was anything other than a pool player trying to enjoy a forum.

Again I say "Was he wrong to go off the deep end?" Yes "Was he pushed?" Yes.

(too bad he didn't follow your sound advise in your first post in this thread)

You are right.

I really don't have much of a problem with anything that went on with some minor exceptions.

1. Russ jumped on the guy immediately calling him a troll and a newbie (I hate that term newbie and when people who have been around awhile jump on someone who is just starting to post as though they have no rights because they are a "newbie".

2. Russ knew he had erred fairly early in the thread but did he try to diffuse the situation with his next post. No. He added fuel to the fire with his "heh, heh..." "boy that guy has a temper"

3. The moderator chiming in with the fact they were offering friendly advice.
How is calling someone "a troll" "a newbie" and "asinine" friendly advice? or someone else piping in with "Who's a stupid wittle troll?? You are!! Yes you are!!!

All of this happened prior to him going off the deep end.

No, I never heard of him before and will most likely never hear of him again. I just hate to see someone unjustly accused of things which is what happened immediately after he posted his question.

I did look at his earlier posts just to be sure he wasn't some kind of whacko and there was nothing to indicate that he was anything other than a person enjoying participation on the forums.

Thank you for asking Wayne. If you would care to read some threads I participated in on the Non Pool Related area (my first posts on there), you will see where I got trashed much worse than Playboy. One was an Al Gore thread and the other had to do with the Iraq war.

One guy in particular (no names mentioned) tore into me with a vengeance. I chose to counter his comments as intelligently as I could. The way I look at it is, it's only words. I have been in much worse spots in my life, so a little name calling doesn't bother me that much. Just check my thread on Sleeping In Your Car. And that was less than a week ago.

In my mind, Playboy over reacted, plain and simple. He didn't HAVE to go off like that. Someone told me something long ago that I never forgot. Just because someone acts like an a--hole, doesn't mean you have be one also.

Well that clears that up. Like I said too bad he didn't follow your first advice.
