Scruggs on Ebay - Why so Cheap?

I would say thats pretty fair...I'd say 700 is about resale/trade value to a dealer. At this price I would say the buyer got a deal but not a steal...IMO

I was the buyer, and I was looking for a deal.. not a steal. But there was not one single bid but mine. Since Mike died it has seemed that any Scruggs on the bay has been getting top dollar. Was just wondering why this one wouldn't?

Chris.

And thanks for your appraisal of the pricing.

I can see why that would be an issue for some. I never worried about the ring work in a plain jane. As long as it hits like a Scruggs, it's fine with me.

I think you got a pretty good deal. I've seen cues just like this go for close to a $1000, between $800 and $1000 depending on several factors like pin and condition and joint. I've seen cues with ring work like in this plain jane style go for right at $1000, maybe a smidge more. Add in an extra shaft and I've seen them go for $1200.

I own a couple handfuls of Scruggs and have had more than my fair share pass through my hands and I've usually paid/sold closer to $1000 for this style. Usually in the $850-$900 ballpark. Sold a SUPER NICE stained curly maple one with average rings at bottom and top and 2 standard shafts with the 5-16/14 steel joint pin for $1200. I've also bought and sold really nice TS Bacote sneakies for $700.

So bottom line, I think you got a deal and it bordered on stealing it. I would say good for you dude. Nice job. It'll play bang up. I hope you love it like I love all of my Scruggs (right now I just happen to love Black Boar more so mine don't get a lot of play!).

But in today's market....who really knows what people will pay.

R,

Greg

Congrats, i saw one almost identical to it go for $800 in the past couple weeks. can't remember if it had 2 shafts tho.

may have something to do with the seller only having a feedback score of 14. Buyers tend to shy away from low feedback.
