Seller shipping my cue internationally with FEDEX

I just picked up a cue on ebay and the US seller wants to send it to me here in Canada using FEDEX. Now I don't have any experience with FEDEX, but I pray they're nothing like UPS.

Last time UPS knocked on my door they turned me upside down and shook me down for crazy brokerage fees. Does anyone know if FEDEX is gonna bend me over on this one?.

I don't normally buy cues from the US for just this reason, but this cue was a real steal and I couldn't resist.

I'm not so much talking about reliability or quality of service as much as...will I need a loan to cover the darn fees.:D

I know FEDEX will get the cue here in one piece, but I've had several cues shipped via USPS and they arrived safe and sound with minimal customs fees. With UPS, they'll pay your customs fees for you and then triple it and hand you the bill.

I've had this experience too. Even though I'm not really in the market for a new cue, I'm always looking at e-bay just in case something turns up that I just have to have. I don't even bother looking at auctions that I know the seller uses UPS. Speaking of juicing Canadians, there are sellers on e-bay that seem to think shipping to canada should be 3 times as expensive as it would be to ship to the states even though this isn't the case and they are quite inflexible about it. oh well, they don't get my money, which the last time I checked is as good as anybody who lives in the states. (not talking currancy).

As a Canadian who also sells on ebay, I gotta say it's often cheaper to ship something to anywhere in the US than to ship it from Toronto- Vancouver. I remember talking to a really friendly ebayer (Bob aka: AmericanCowboyBilliards) and he told me that on average it only costs about 10 cents more to ship to Canada than the US.

Well, about the exchange rate, give it a few more months and the Canadian Dollar will be on par with the US.

I've dealt with AmericanCowboyBilliards, he's super to deal with and seems to like throwing extras (chalk)in for people who buy from him regularly.

The reason why I ship with FedEx and pay more to do it is because they are the best. Let us know how it turns out.

I have sent several Cues, & Cases in the U.S. Mail (Priority Mail) with Insurance & Delivery Confirmation. The only problem I had was during X-mas, it took 4 day instead of the Normal 2-3 for a Coast to Coast Shipment.

When I was a Freelance Still News Photographer I sent THOUSANDS of Rolls of Exposed Film, and Images that Could NOT BE REPLACED by Federal Express Air Service, they were always deliver on time, and in perfect shape.

Used FedX GROUND SERVICE once to send (2) Flintlock Longrifles in Plywood Crates to a Dealer for consignment sale. FedX Ground DESTROYED (1) of the Rifles when they Ran Over the Crate with a Semi Truck. The insurance experience said to me NEVER do anything with FedX Ground AGAIN,

I buy lots of stuff from the States and usually have it shipped with fedex, (unless the supplyer insists on UPS), precisely because you won't have a surprise like you always do with UPS. Fedex will not charge you a big amount of brokerage, unlike UPS (unless you use the UPS expedited). But of course you'll have to pay GST and all that stuff. So no worries here.

make sure u get a tracking # that way every 10 hours or so u can check on the computer to see where your package is..i always like to use next day delivery if it is a sensitive object that i ordered .but tracking your package will be fun..good luck

Whenever I have a package shipped from the US I make sure to get a tracking number. Unfortunately, the tracking information isn't usually available on the website until the day the package arrives at my door. Tracking is great if the cue gets lost in transit, but as far as real time tracking from US to Canada, it's useless and tits on a bull.

I know it may not be ethical, but when I was at FedEx, a lot of our BC customers would either have their packages held at our terminal...we were the closest to the border...or get a mailbox at one of the commercial mailbox locations. Some would use a brokerage firm.

One guy picked up a mountain bike one day at the terminal, and spent an hour out in the parking lot assembling it. Threw it up on his bike rack, and headed for the border. In this way, it looked as if he had brought the bike with him upon his entry to the states. I have seen it done with tires and wheels for cars as well.
