selling out to japan!

Marcus-
I have a question and its a serious one. I know you love Tascarella cues. and rightly so. They are beautiful (as is your collection). But what would you do if he signed with Lucky and stopped selling his cues here? would you still love and collect his cues?
-Brian

BRIAN,
I WAS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO ASK ME THIS QUESTION. IT'S A HARD ONE FOR ME TO ANSWER. I CAN SAY THIS, IF FOR SOME REASON MR. TASCARELLA DID THAT, IT WOULD BE HARD FOR ME TO KEEP COLLECTING HIS CUES. I REALLY HOPE THAT I NEVER HAVE TO MAKE THAT DECISION. I THINK THAT IF I HAD TO MAKE THE CHOICE THAT I WOULD MOVE ONTO SOMEONE ELSE'S CUES. I DON'T THINK THAT I'LL EVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THIS SITUATION THOUGH.

I KNOW I DIDN'T GIVE A DEFINITIVE ANSWER, BUT AT THIS POINT I CAN'T GIVE ONE.

I know how you feel. Its a tough decision to make especially when its only a hypothetical. I love Paul Mottey and James White. But if they went overseas, would I still love their cues? Probably. Would I still buy them? I just don't know.

I also hope you won't have to make that decision, but even if you do, the funds that his cues will bring after the sellout might ease your pain.

BTW, a question to all of ya, if someone sold out not overseas, but to a US dealer/collector, what would you think about him?

One other thing, it has been noted here, in the forum, that someone did ask a US cuemaker "not bound" (yeah ok) by a Japanese dealer, for a cue and he was told to go to the Japanese dealer. So I think that qualifies as the horses mouth.

Joe

You can't be serious. The definition of going to the horses mouth would be calling the dealer. If you'd like to call the cuemaker and report back then I'd say it was from the horses mouth. But going by a post from someone I don't know isn't. I have talked to a few cuemakers and gotten differing stories, so I'll just go to the horse if I have a question, I won't take what I read here as truth, specially since I read crap from clueless people every day here. For the person who thinks they should get the same price as a person who buys 30 cues a year from a maker, well I don't even know how to answer to something that dumb.

I don't get the question, I don't get asking Marcus or his answer, he buys the cues on the second hand market, I don't know for sure but my guess would be that 90% of the cues Marcus has have been secondary market purchases. So if he couldn't get cues from the source what is the problem? How many people here have wanted to order a Black Boar or a Cog in the last 3 years? I can tell you this before the Lucky deal you could get all the Cogs you wanted and it's still pretty true now. I think everyone here is full of crap, I doubt anyone wanted to order either cue, I doubt the deals with Lucky have effected anyone. And for those who claim it's not racism related you're full of crap, because Joe Gold has never liked to deal with the public, before Lucky it was Kieth Walton and nobody had any problem with it. Most here don't know the facts and most overreact.
So who can be honest now and tell me they planned to order a cue from either Joe or Tony???

Jim <--thinks the number should be low.

marcus,
i know and you know if Pete desided to do an exclusive with anybody for a limited time you would not stop collecting his cues. come on now that's going a little overboard not only to say a very unwise investment choice. i think this subject is worn out. if you like a makers cues you like them not for their "availability" but for what we all like cues for their playability, craftsmanship, beauty and because we can kind of have a "peice" of that cue maker. Pete is high on the mountain of those traits. it does suck when certain cues become unavailable for a while but that's all it is "a while" not forever by a far stretch. it's never bothered me and never will as long as the cuemaker makes good on previous orders first then all to me is ok. i wonder what Pete's thoughts on this subject are.

Just a thought

When people complain about a cuemaker NOT being available, doesnt that mean that his cue prices go up? If every man, woman, child and dog each had 1/2 dozen Balabushka cues laying around the house; tell me..what would they be worth? What if every family on the block had a Lamborghini in the garage and one on cinder block in the front yard? Would they still be thought of as cool? Would you want one? I still believe we live in a world where you can get anything you want if you're willing to pay for it. Just most people think THEY shouldn't have to pay for it. Demand vs supply....it should be a mandatory course in every high school. Most people still don't understand it.

INVESTMENT 101 - Buy low, sell high. Not buy high, sell higher....bottom gotta drop out at some point, it's called the law of averages.

YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THE LOOK ON HER FACE WHEN I TOLD HER I WAS GOING AFTER TWO MORE. SHE CERTAINLY WASN'T HAPPY. I JUST KEEP TELLING HER I'M NOT READY TO SETTLE DOWN.

One of those might be harder to get than you think.
