Semih Sayginer playing casual 8-ball

I have the utmost respect for Semih's stroke, but that table looks to have 6" pockets.
 
I guess when you have shotmaking skills like Semih you don't have to worry much about getting shape.:)
 
Nice, thank you for sharing the link ! I know that Torbjörn Blomdahl has played once at the Eurotour and he didn't play bad at all. I bet Semih was 80-20 favourite on that 8-ball :rolleyes:

It looked like the table had him totally baffled on nearly all of his position shots. It was perhaps the sloppiest runout I've ever seen by a world champion (cross-discipline, but still....) I've seen him play much better pool than that.
 
Haha! Absolutely a 3-cushioner's shot on the 8ball. And he looked surer of that than his other straight-in shots!

shape is EXACTLY what you'd expect from a 3c player...........more so than shot making.
 
Great clip, I was laughing when he kicked that 8 in...probably a more "routine" shot for him than drawing out one cushion, lol.

I cant think of a more inaccurate word that could be used to describe that out than sloppy. He could have easily shot the 14 in the left corner and slid over for shape. Instead he got a little more creative. He then fires in the 8 ike it was straight in.

Sloppy is plenty accurate. If he could've shot the fourteen corner and slid over for shape, then that's what he should've done. "Creative" is about the most inaccurate word IMHO, I would choose the word "careless". He knows he can pot anything on the table, so he was just knocking them in and taking whatever shape came his way. I would like to see him take his time and come with shape than just flounder his way through the rack. Don't forget, he started his inning with BIH and he was out of line after the first shot.

The shot on the 8 was beautiful, but there was absolutely no need to leave himself such a low percentage pot. He could hit the 8 clean and come close to pocketing it nine out of ten times, but even he was surprised it went in.

The reason he got "creative" during the rack is because he was practicing. How can you use the word careless when he is clearly just showing off and having some fun. Also he wasnt as out of line as you think. When your running out and there are other balls to adress you cant always go a to b to c etc. it doesnt mean your necessaraly out of line.

I think Semih was just kidding around on this video with a local guy. So, I wouldn't evaluate his clip so much for the 8-ball patterns. Two shots before the kick, he tried to draw it 3 rails for a good position (and came up a bit short) forcing him to slice the next shot and lose control getting on the 8. My guess is that if he was being serious he would have probably cut it in the left pocket.

But trust me, Semih's got a better cue-ball than most folks. While he is notorious for his (super) powerful stroke - I've seen him play straight billiards where you can see a very fine touch and speed control in play.

I guess as expected his kicking is pretty impressive. He is famous for 3-cushion shots where he kicks one rail before hitting the first ball and then catches 2 or 3 rails more before scoring on the 2nd ball.

It's great to watch creative 3-cushion players play shots like this in tournament when there is nothing else...

Look at this cool 2-cushion-first kick that Torbjorn Blomdahl played against Miguel Torres during the 2006 Sang Lee International Open from August.
