Seminole Tour cuts added money in half.

The Florida Seminole Tour is without a doubt the best regional tour. Maybe I should say was the best. That tour has been replaced by The Seminole Tour.
The "Florida" has been dropped as they have expanded into the Southeast. I think expansion is good. However, the added money has been cut in half from 8,000/9,000 to 4,000/5,000. There is no word on if the entry fees have also been cut.

Just got an email that the entry fee is still $150 and there is a late charge of $25 if you don't put your entry in early enough. Didn't know about the reduction in money though which is a big surprise, I have traded emails with both Kevin and Brenna about the schedule and haven't heard a word about it.

I think "Florida" needs to take their tour back. We need a tour with an affordable entry that doesn't start on Friday night (needlessly). That adds a hotel room to the costs, plus I can't make it to most of the events because I can't leave Orlando until after 4PM due to work (work... what a concept).
;)

I knew that sooner or later the "Seminole" tour would expand north - which makes that Friday start time even more impossible for most of us. I miss the simplicity of the Mali Tour days.

If we build it, they will come.

^^ As I haven't played pool in months I haven't talked to him in so long, but last I heard from him he is still a TD and helps run the show, but it's not only him now -- some people (k.p & co.) from the Sem Sports Managment are in charge. IDK, I'll probably give him a call and ask him later.

With the player/crowd attendance at the HR in the season finally, is it any surprise the money got cut? Let's just hope expanding does something good.

You are right about that... I was at that event, and I was shocked at how few people were there. It was depressing that I showed up and had no problem finding a seat in the first row! But, I will say that I feel they could do a better job promoting the event. I live in S. Florida and would never have even heard about it if I didn't have friends in town playing in it. Even once you are at the Hard Rock, there was no signage promoting the event... I could barely even find where they were playing, the whole thing was so hidden!

Added costs = less tourney money

Maybe they cut the added tournament money to pay for their new website and "sports management team".

Right...and I just watched the Schmidt/Nevel match in the freaking U.S. OPEN and there were MAYBE 30 people watching!!

Pro pool in this country is a sick puppy. The 20 million "active" pool players are mostly using pool as an excuse to go toss down the brewskis and could care less about wathing the pros.

Any anyone who has ever been to the BCA in Vegas knows that even with 8,000 LEAGUE players within 300 yards of the pro events, you could shoot a bazooka into the stands and not hit anyone.

So even SERIOUS pool players don't care to watch the pros.

Why is that? For MOST people pool is FUN to play and BORING to watch...so what do some event sponsors do? They ban the jump cue WHICH IS BY FAR THE MOST POPULAR SHOT FOR SPECTATORS TO WATCH.

And they allow the soft break in spite of scientific research that proves watching more than 4 of them induces deep sleep IF NOT A COMA!

Sometimes I think the "powers that be" have a death wish for U.S. pro pool...but then again...there ARE no "powers that be" but rather warring factions of pro organizations and tour sponsors.

For sure, no one needs to invent a pro sports structure that is destined to fail...because it has already been invented.

The Friday thing kills any chances that I can play or attend too. If I was going to take 4 or 5 days vacation and use it towards pool, The Seminole tour would be going up against the Derby City Classic. I think most people can guess which choice will win if that decision comes up.

I suggested to Kevin that if he was going to do three days, start it on Saturday and end it on Monday. By Monday, most of the players are out and if you are still in it, you can afford the extra day.

I think starting events on saturday is a great idea. I imagine some players would even show up on Friday night to get used to the tables and maybe stir up a little action. Sounds like a good thing for the players, who can work on Friday, and for the poolroom owners, who'll get a little extra traffic the night before. As UWate stated, the guys guys still in it on Monday can afford the day off work.
I seem to remember Rempe talking about how players used to like to be able to take the redeye back on cross-country tournaments, so things started on Friday to end up on Sunday. I don't think that's a valid argument for a "regional" tour event. Restructuring the schedule to pull in more players makes good sense.
