Serious question?

Has nothing to do with what is best.

Has to do with the almighty dollar....hence Predator pool table that plays like dogshit...

6th grade? No. LOL! Where are y'all getting this?

Base paths do not hit 90' until high school. Hopefully this puts it all to rest.

Never heard of Bronco or Pinto leagues... There are national Little League, Junior League and Senior League organizations. Players start using 90 foot basepaths and 60' 6" pitching mounds at age 12.

We had those leagues in my area when I was a kid(Austin,Texas). Not sure if they still exist here.

On topic the tables are picked by organizers and their sponsors. This should not be hard to understand.

They used to claim a full speed underhand pitch was faster than an overhand pitch. One of those skills I had by purest luck, I could pitch underhand at 953 miles an hour and catch the corner of the plate in Jr High School. We played at recess and the backstop was the brick wall of a school building. The catcher was normally barehanded so I would motion him clear before I started the full power pitches.

I don't know how many pitches I could have thrown like that, an instructor or administrator always came running out, afraid I would damage the building! I would usually get in one out before the bell rang to end the recess. I was solidly in the strike zone but the pitches were unhittable for batters that age. The swing would come after the ball hit the building! I don't remember the distance pitched, maybe fifty feet at most. Too close for someone to track a ball and time a swing. No mound to pitch off of. No batting helmet either, had I let one fly wild.

The speed might have been slightly exaggerated. A few years later a friend threw three hard balls through the traps at 99.8 miles an hour and the Houston Astros wanted him to come play.

An old politician was explaining why he loved baseball: "The only time you can throw deadly objects at somebody's head a hundred miles an hour and call it a game."

You are mistaken. 12 year olds are not playing on high school fields.

That's right. The rise of suburbia also killed pool. Less urbanized environment means people started doing more outdoor things. None of this is controversial. Brunswick did analysis of this way back and this is why they changed their tables. Started making tables suitable for homes, cheaper, to try to adapt to the new suburban ranch home world.

My potentially unrealistic hope is that the rise of suburbia also leads to a resurgance of pool. With on-line retailers taking a chomp out of brick and mortar spaces, rents on some of the open mini-mall spots on that main road in and out of town ought to be come fairly cheap. What it would take though is landlords admitting that their not going to strike gold with a high $$/sqft "best restaurant in town" tennant, and being ok with something that takes in a lot less but is a stable client.

On another note, the place I play golf at most has a deal where it's 140 a month for unlimited play. This is a course with 45 holes, all in the 6200 yd area. If I total up what it cost me in day passes for playing 4 days a week at the place I play pool at it's more. So in my area, it's actually more expensive to play pool than golf.
Man, that’s awesome. Where do you live? I’m playing tomorrow and it’s the expensive season down here. I think we are paying a little more than half of that for just one round. That’s a steal.

No, I am not mistaken. Being as my son played Junior League, I am pretty familiar with it.

If you would like to familiarize yourself with the specifics, you could go to the actual website, and see for yourself.

I stand corrected. I was familiar with Senior League as I played it from 13-15 then onto Senior Babe Ruth.

Just our of curiosity, how many 12 year olds compete in Junior League in your area being as that's the top age group for standard Little League and an opportunity to make the Little League World Series?

Not a huge amount, but there are those who are more advanced that prefer that. (Or their parents prefer, sigh) Plus the seasons overlap some, so the 12 year olds that can handle Junior League can move up when their Little League season is over.

Incidently, our (small) city of Bangor, Maine, was the host city for The Senior League World Series for probably 10+ years, till they relocated it a few years ago. We got to see a whole lot of great young players here over the years. ESPN would broadcast the final game live, too... As the host city, our team got entry into the tournament every year. A lot of our local kids got to play against the best in their age group from around the world. One year our team even got to the finals or semi finals, it was pretty exciting.

Last I really paid attention was when my son was playing Babe Ruth about 15 years ago. It's not surprising fields have been shrunk to the everyone get's a trophy size since then. How soft can this place get before collapse? I guess I will head down to drag queen story time to learn the modern ins and outs.
