Several DCC questions...

How did Shannon Daulton, Nick Varner, Louie DeMarco & Glenn Rogers do in the Bank event?
Is Eddie Kelly playing or just visiting?
Does Earl Strickland match up while there or does he still refrain from gambling?
Is Thomas Engert or Oliver Ortmann playing?

*The DCC, U.S. Open and the World Championships are some of the most exiting times for us wanna be railbirds & aspiring players. On behalf of every other fan who couldn't get off of work and has to peruse thru these posts for any info on our great sport, let's hope the info from those who are fortunate enough to be there starts flowing...please. :)

And some more questions...

Why is there no official 14.1 event??? Please don't tell me because it's not good for TV...

How many non-US players apart from Reyes have success at one pocket? I know European players are not very good at that game...probably because they don't play it at all.

Does Earl play anything other than 9ball?

Why is there no 14.1 event? Most likely because after the 8 fun-packed and, for some, sleepless days at the DCC consisting of Banks, One-Pocket, and 9-Ball tournaments, it would just be a little too much (IMO). There are different pockets of the country where straight pool is very popular. However, in Kentucky, the game of Banks rules!

I think Eddie Kelly is visiting and not playing in the competitive events. Some friends of mine who just got back said they got a chance to speak to the Hall of Famer and noticed his beautiful ring. He was wearing his Hall of Fame ring proudly. I did not know Hall of Famers receive a ring for this honor.

With American origins, One-pocket is played by most established players from coast to coast. Marcus Chamat of Sweden is an accomplished one-hole player, but you are right, I don't believe one-pocket has made its fame in Europe.

Last year, Earl Strickland played in the Banks event. I'd have to believe if he was there, which I think he was at that time, he'd have played this year as well. Last year, I remember discussing with him that the tables seemed to bank a half-an-inch short, as he was practicing for a match, adjusting his game. I have not seen Earl Strickland gamble at any competitive event. However, according to those who were there, he did enjoy some on-the-road activities when he was much, much younger, when ACTION was prevalent and they would bet it pretty high. ;)

I don't think any of these players finished in the top twelve.
I left before the one pocket event started, but I watched Eddie Kelly play in the banks tournament.
Haven't seen Earl in action in a long time.
Don't recall seeing or hearing Engert or Ortmanns name at the Derby.

I was at DCC from the 17th through the 19th. Earl did play in the Banks event, though he didn't get very far. I didn't even SEE Nick Varner, which broke my heart. As for the German players, I *think* Engert is there, but definetely no Ortmann. Don't go around quoting me on this. :)

Nick Varner no show, he is in Asia either on vacation or on a tour acording to Danny Dilaberto. Ed Kelly I think played in the one pocket and got beat. I didn't see Demarco play in the banks, but he was there for the 9-ball. Rogers, placed in the banks but did not win. Strickland cashed in the banks and cashed in the one pocket. Did not see Engert or Ortman.

Strickland doesn't gamble due to his contract with his sponsors..

Nick isn't at the DCC. Shannon, Piggy, and Louie didn't make the last 10, IIRC.

Is Eddie Kelly playing or just visiting?
Playing

Does Earl Strickland match up while there or does he still refrain from gambling?
Didn't see him gambling. He is playing all three events.

Is Thomas Engert or Oliver Ortmann playing?
Didn't see either of them.

Because the three flavors of games are a deep rooted trio in the Kentucky area. They are the three action games of the last couple of decades.

How many non-US players apart from Reyes have success at one pocket?
Do you mean how many non-US players apart from the Filipinos? Alex and José have had success.

The great thing about the Derby is that if the 9 ballers want to get into the big prize money (Master of the Table) they got to play all games. So guys like Mika and Soquet are diligently learning one pocket. Efren and the Filipinos not known for their interest in Banks are learning that specialty as well. All in all its great for the game. Now if someone can get some good money up for 14.1 I'd love to see that game grow. The way a guy like Efren runs a 100 is so special and unique to the game. (saw him bank a ball then come around 3 rails to break the stack) He could change the game itself.
