Shaft cleaner?

I just recently bought a bottle of shaft cleaner from a on-lime billard co. And to my suprise the shaft cleaner has a very strong odor. Very much like Pine-sol cleaner. Is this the norm for shaft cleaners? It dose work and does not leave residue. Is Pine-sol commonly used in cue cleaners? Just wondering.

Just use mr clean magic erasure buy it at wallmart for $4.00 instead of using water to activate it use 100% denatured alcohl with NO WATER, this way the wood grain of the shaft wont raise and make it rough. Dry it with a towel and burnish on a lathe or rub a piece of leather over the shaft to seal it again. To do it right its easier with a lathe much better results overall.

If you change the way you chalk your cue and wash your hands more your shaft wont get dirty as fast. If you hold the tip down or across level then chalk most of the chalk falls to the floor and not down the shaft or in your hand. this way your hand and shaft stay cleaner. Wipe your hands alot and wipe you cue down while playing and after your done for the day to put it away. A few little changes make a world of difference.

However, I heard from one of custom cue maker in my city that told me most of the shaft cleaner contain bleach, which mean not good for your cue.
I know one item that does not contain the bleach; go to beadsandbilliards.com and the item name is "undo the blue". I used undo the blue and it works well for me.

I use the shaft cleaner that Chris Hightower sells. No smell and works better than magic eraser. just spin the shaft in the lathe and put a few drops on a paper towel and rub down the shaft. When finished, re-burnish and finished.

there are plenty of ways to clean shafts most require a lathe to do it totaly right.

water and sandpaper are some of the worst things you can use on a shaft.

Do a search and you will find 10-20 differnt idea's on how to clean a shaft.

There used to be a product called Shark Oil (brand name) marketed to clean shafts and ferrules, but that was years ago (1995-96?)--worked pretty good. I have some somewhere but it is so old I'm not sure I'd attempt to use it now.

Thanks everyone. What I was concerned about was the fact that the cleaner obviously has Pine-Sol or Pine-Sol generic cleaner in it. And could this be hazardous to the shaft? Any Ideas?

Nope... it's not the Longoni. I don't know about the pine sol at all, but for sure undo the blue will not harm your shaft. So far, undo the blue is the best "shaft cleaner" that I know. (as I know it will not to harm the shaft at all -> not trying to make an advertisement here).
You can try to call beadsandbilliards and ask the person whatever you want to know (her name is Jessi and she is a custom cuemaker).

There are many products and devices that have been developed over the years for the billiard trade, some good and some not. You have many cleaning products, slicking products, low deflection shafts, jump cues and so on and so on. Most cleaning and slicking products have little, if any, in depth product testing over a length of time. Someone tries a solution or a product that was originally meant for another use and it worked well so they re-bottle and have themselves a little cottage industry both making a little money and, they believe, helping their fellow pool players. Sometimes they work well and last and of coarse others don't. What you smelled could very well just be Pine Sol re-bottled. It may clean well.
