Shaft cleaner

I just recently had my 12.75mm shaft turned down to 12mm, I was watching the guy do it and when it was done he took a small rag and used a small amount of some kind of liquid and worked it into the full length if the shaft I didnt think to ask him at the time but it left an incredibly smooth almost waxed finish on the shaft it felt way better than it did when it was brand new... So my question is what cleaner/waxes work good like that stuff. Ive played 4-6hrs each day for the last three days and its starting to lose the slick finish and Id like to know what to use to get that feel back.

I use Q wax after cleaning the shaft, it leaves the shaft really smooth, and a jar lasts a long time!
you can find it at most online billiard supply sites.

There were some threads a while back on using Butchers bowling alley wax, I decided to give it a try.

I thoroughly cleaned the shafts on each cue and applied the Butcher's, really working it in to the wood. That was over a year ago, the finish is holding up great, haven't had to reapply - and with a table in the house, the cues get exercised just about every day. I just wipe each shaft down with a clean microfiber cloth after playing.

A $18 tub will last an awful long time.

Hope this helps.

After doing that to the shaft, it could have been a laquer as well. I use a laquer-based sanding sealer.

I'm a big fan of using a combination of Cyclomethicone, and Dimethicone after using a damp magic eraser to remove the grime.

Doug the tip guy in Evergreen Colorado has been fooling around with a number of wax concoctions for awhile.
He put a tip on for me and waxed the shaft about a month ago and it still is as slick and smooth as day one.
He gave me a small amount so I could re wax it when needed but so far it's good.

Is that an actual wax or paste or is it a liquid? Any other suggestions???

i use this,

if you had to turn down your shaft I can almost guarentee the liquid was a sealer like speed seal or something like it. After you sand the stick down you have to seal it back up or else the raw wood will absorb the moisture in the air like a sponge and warp like crazy. If your cue smith knew what he was doing its almost guarenteed that is what it was. Once it is on it buffs up to almost a mirror finish and is smooth as glass. Then he probably applied q wax over that. Thats how i do it and my customers love it.

As far as loosing its slickness after acouple weeks, use a damp (not wet) paper towel and clean it then a dry one. you will get the slickness back. What i usually tell my customers is wash your hands. Then grab two paper towels and dry your hands with it. Then grab another paper towel that is dry. Use the one that you dried your hands with first. There is just enough moisture to work but not enough to harm the stick. Then dry it with the second and kind of run it back and forth to heat up the stick a little it helps the wax "Flow" a little and polish back up.

If you do buy qwax make sure you clean the shaft in this manner first before applying the wax. Once the wax is applied let it dry up a little then buf it until it starts getting warm to hot. once it is buffed up it will feel like glass again.

Try to seal the pores of a cue using undyed leather. This is sold at all leading billiard supply stores. Rub the leather up and down vigorously on the length of the cue to help seal and clean the shaft.

After reading quite a few reviews of Butcher's Bowling Alley wax I finally bought a can. I cleaned a shaft using Magic Eraser and applied two coats of the wax. Played great and held up for quite a while. Excellent product, and as stated, one can will last a lifetime.
