i tried to draw this idea out on another program but couldnt get it to show up here
so, i'll try to describe as best i can
i got a cue in the works, that i want to put a 150/1000ths ivorine 4 ring on shaft
i dont have a lot of faith in a ring that thin, little gluing surface
i was thinking of making a pc of ivorine 4 , threaded for , say 1.50" @ 5/8x18 with the last .150" left at .900 or whatever size it comes in
tap and thread shaft at 5/8x18 to receive
then tap and thread the ivorine for pin
anyone try this???
got any thoughts as to strength of this type joint?????
maybe thread smaller at 1/2 x10 ?????????
or not thread at all?????

It will weaken the joint area imo.
Same thing with T-shaped ferrules.
i'm leaning to that conclusion also joey
thanks for the input
i may try it on a junk cue/shaft just for the helluvit and abuse it to see how it holds up
i'm not the greatest cue abuser, but i know one guy that is

Cuetech and Nova cues are made similar to that.

Don't they have a ss collar on the shaft for that reason? Or am I thinking of an import that is similar?? Never cut one apart to find out.

The new Schons look like a one piece collar AND screw to me.
But, the T-shaped collar where a threaded stem goes into the shaft is weak imo.
A collar clamping the wood from the outside is the whole point of a collar. With a stem inside, you'd be trying to split the shaft when using. Plus, you'll probably going to have ugly glue line at the bottom of that t-collar.

Joey, I agree that it's not as strong as I've had to repair a number of both but that is how they do or did theirs. I see no reason why doing it this way is going to create any more of a glue line than any other method of installing a ring.

Joey,

The Schon is merely a capped end ring as is the Pechauer Pro. Glue surface area is not an issue as the insert helps secure the ring.

BHQ,
You could do the same setup as long as your insert isn't a flush mount.
