shaft made from a brunswick challenger cue?

Hey cuemakers, I have a question.

I am having a titlist converted and the forearm will be darker than the white maple of today. I am hoping to get a shaft that matches as close as possible to the honey maple color.

My 2 questions...

I have a handful of old challenger cues. (maple the full length of cue with points painted on). If these old cue butts were turned down to shaft size, would they still have a nice honey color or would the deep cuts reveal white maple again?

Do you think these challenger butts are acceptable to turn into shafts? wood quality, runout all the considerations you guys use when picking shaft blanks?

Thanks,
Ian

If they stay straight & stable I'd say go for it. They won't turn white like today's wood.

Challengers are one of my favorite sources of shaft wood, whenever I find one I hoard it and make a nice shaft (if the grain is good)
