Shaft Question

Hello,
I have a Predator Shaft that is threaded for a radial pin, and I was wondering if it was possible to have it re-threaded to fit a 3/8 x 10 pin? Also, if this is possible who should I send it to and approx. how much would this cost?

Thank you for your time.

Yes, it can be plugged and re-drilled and tapped easily. Probably any cue repairman in America would have no problem with such a task. The price would greatly vary from repair man to repairman and the are you are in. I would say that it could run from as little as 10.00 to as much as 50.00 or maybe even more. At my shop the price would be 20.00.

i think you can tap it 3/8-10 and it will fit both actually.it may be the other way around,d o don't do it unless the cuemakers says so.but i think you can tap the radila to fit both, but it couls be tap the 3/8-10 to fit both.i had it done once and it worked perfedly for years.you just have to be careful when you start it.

Did he fill up the threads with epoxy first , then bored out 5/16 then re-tap?

You should never tap 2 different threads in the same hole. It's a disaster waiting to happen. Just because it CAN be done doesn't mean that it SHOULD be done.

Send it or take it to Dick Neighbors, (rhncue) and get it done right. You'll get excellent work and you'll then know where to send all your work from then on.

I would not suggest doing this. It will make it very easy to get a "spinner"...at some point when you tighten it it will keep on spinning. You NEVER want to tap the same 5/16 hole for radial & 3/8-10.
Fix it professionally & do as Dick said...plug then rebore & tap.;)

i was really just telling him it can be done.i used my shaft that was tapped for both for years and never had a problem, might be the phenolic threads on those Predator.Joey he never filled them with epoxy, just retapped it.worked like a charm.i wouldn't recommend it for wood, but the Predator 2 shafts have phenolic threads.

Thank you for all the responses.... I think I will give Mr. Neighbors a call and see what we can do.

Thanks again!
