Shaft question?

I am currently playing a Universal Smart Shaft 12.75 but have now experienced the second defective unit that I have had to send back. I found the OB-1 in my friends catalog. I am wondering what you have experienced using this cue, and if possible could you compare it to the Universal?

Welcome to the forum! I have test hit with both and I would prefer the OB-1 myself.
 
i have both shaft and like them both a lot. i play mainly with the ob-1 though because of the low deflection. the ob-1 will have a lot less deflection than the USS, though the USS is pretty low for a non-hollow shaft. the ob-1 is a lot lighter than the USS and hits a bit deader due to the wooden ferrule and foam. i don't find the OB-1 to be that whippy, though that is a common complaint. the USS i would consider to be a very stiff shaft.
what issue did you have with your USS?
 
I really like the taper of the OB1, and don't think that it's "whippy" at all. It's anti-deflection characteristics work well. The hit is very soft and quiet due to the wooden ferrule, especially if you have a soft tip on it, and I agree with the lack of feed back due to the foam core. It's a quite unique hit. I think most will love it or hate it, and recommend that you try one. PM Shinobi for the best prices around on new ones, or search the wanted/for sale section for a selection of used ones.

Agreed. If you've never tried it, then give it a try. I did and I'm in the "hate it" camp now.
 
yeah soft tips will make the ob-1 feel really dead. after i changed the talisman it came with to a sniper, it helped the feel a lot. i really like the ob-1, but i can definitely see why some people would hate it.

Both times the glue on the ferrule let loose. I like the hit and the stiffness of the USS but not too thrilled with the quality control on them.

Thanks for your feedback, I am going to try one out on Wednesday.
