Shaft taper

This is a fairly frequent subject as are shafts in general. Most people seem to like ten or twelve inches of pro taper on a playing stick. This is a comfortable taper for most people to play with. In terms of anything magic about a certain taper, I am skeptical of any being magic. I have ran my pro taper back to about fourteen inches or so on my personal stick but it was mostly to play around. Next I think I'll go with a parabolic section and a lot of very gradual taper. No good reason except I like to try different things.
You might try searching on shafts and tapers. I say "try" because the search function can be a little tricky sometimes.

I have absolutely nothing to found this on ... LOL but none the less, I like a long pro taper with a more whippy shaft for two reasons.
The first reason is what I believe, not what I know,
That is, I think that when ever two objects collide there has to be a certain amount of shock and a certain amount of give. Its like a car going over a bump with a shock absorber that gives or a shock absorber that is stiff.
With one that gives, the shock is felt less, with one that is stiff, the shock is transferred more. So, I believe the cue ball is less likely to jump off line with a forgiving whippy shaft. Again this is just what I think, not what I know. But if you think playing pool with a rabbit's foot makes you shoot better and when you have that rabbit's foot you do shoot better, hmmm maybe it matters.
Next is what I know. I like a long pro taper.

If we start with the concept of a perfectly rigid shaft and it contained by a bridge and backhand with no lateral movement then all of the deflection caused by an off center hit or a hit with the lines of force not directly forward must be absorbed by the cue ball.
You will get strong arguments that how stiff the shaft is doesn't actually matter and only the mass of the end of the shaft matters however I believe something quite different, the effective mass of the end of the shaft is what matters and that is affected by the stiffness.
I also agree that if you believe in a rabbit's foot, it'll work for you although four of them didn't do much for the rabbit! I have shot with radically different sticks and they all got the job done once I learned how to use them.
