Shaft Thread Mystery

Picked up some shafts the other day in a package deal. Seems to be good quality. Nice, tight growth rings. Counted 17 on one and 19-20 on the other. I assumed it was one of the normal woods threads - 3/8-10, 3/8-11, 3/8-14 or radial. Well none of those pins even fit into it. What other pins could it be? Not laminated shafts. Before I do something stupid, wanted to see if the thread may be able to indicate the maker. Thanks in advance to assistance I can get.

Forgot to mention, no metal insert. Screws into wood.

Contrary to popular belief, pin sizes, i.e. 3/8-10, are not standardized.

Specifically, the threads per inch are standard, but not the pitch.

For example, ALEX BRICK, one of my all-time favorite cuemakers (God rest his soul), used MEDICAL pins. On his playing cues, not jump/breaks, he commonly used a 3/8-10 pin.

But since it was a medical industry pin, the pitch of the threads was totally different than other 3/8-10 pins. So no other shafts would fit.

Also, though not common anymore, some cue makers used to fabricate their own pins.

I was in Randy Mobleys shop a few weeks ago, and IIRC he still makes his own hardware. Randy is an amazing perfectionist and I can't wait to get one of his masterpieces.

Anyhoo, good luck with your shafts.

Thanks Von. Also, shafts have no metal inserts in them. They screw into wood. Pics added.

so you are saying the 3/8 pin is to fat to go inside the shaft? Meaning that the pin is thinner than 3/8? I asked for pictures thinking the ring work might ring a bell but it didn't

3/8 10 have so many variants. Some are really .380'sh.
Some have .295 minor up to 5/16 minor.

There are also imported "radial" screws.
There are also 3/8 12.
