How light do you think someone could make a shaft with the following specs:
3/8x10 joint
Black Penolic Collar
12.75mm @ the tip
21.70mm @ the joint (0.854)
1" ferrule (Melamine, Micarta or Ivory)
Something with a stiffer taper but not a pro taper

Here is why I ask...

I have cue that has a 17.0oz butt that I currently use as a break cue that I'm considering using as a shooter occasionally. I usually play with with a cue in the 19.5 to 19.9 range so I was thinking about getting a playing shaft for this cue to go along with my purpleheart break shaft.

Just thought I would educate myself a little before I ordered anything to be made.

I appreciate your feedback.

Thanks!

I don't know about anyone else, but 3.4 oz. in the configuration you described would be about as low as I would want to go for a shaft. I am have trouble getting below 4 oz. most of the time.

I've never owned a pro tapered shaft, but I thought that was a stiffer taper...my bad. Thank you for the correction. Please ignore that comment in my specs. Thanks!

3.4 might work, I think I could give 20.4 a shot and see what happens.

17 oz butt?
You need to get that down to 15 oz.
The shaft you described would hover around 3.2 to 3.5 oz. imo.

The butt was designed to be a break cue on the heavy side which is why it's 17.0. It does a real good job at that so I'm not looking to mess with the butt if I can help it.

Over the weekend I screwed on 3/8x10 shaft that a friend of mine has and I really liked how it played outside of being a touch heavy for me. If I can get it down 20.5 overall I think it will work...and based on the feedback thus far it is possible.
