Shane isn't Creative?

For those of you that don't know, Perry Mariano, better known as "Bugsy" in the Phillipines had some choice words for Van Boening recently:

"He (Van Boening) doesn't know what to do with a hard shot," Mariano said. "He's good in pocketing. But he's lacking in creativity. There's a time when the balls will make it hard for you and that's his problem.

He should watch this match at 21:00 and then say who isn't creative:

It's a classic case of being outsmarted on the push shot. Dennis obviously is a very creative player, but to say SVB doesn't know what to do with a hard shot, is plain stupid. Surely one of Bugsy's best players should have seen why Shane pushed out there.

All that aside, I would really like to see something happen because of Bugsy's comments. They should send a player to play a long race with SVB. If someone manages to get something like that going, I'm sure live-viewing and dvd copies would bring in alot of dough.

When you're on top, people are going to talk about you. Shane has had a great year and right now he's being talked about A LOT. It's hard to stay on top of the mountain because you will have everybody gunning for you, trying to knock you down from your pedestal. It will be interesting to see how long Shane can maintain his current momentum - and until he shows any signs of slowing down (which so far he hasn't) comments like Bugsy's really don't have a strong foundation.

What else can he do?....SVB beat some of his best players in his home court. You gotta take a shot to maybe stir the pot. I have the feeling from Jays posts that SVB will be making a few more trips to the land of Efren for a little action.

I'll take a different view. Shane is already a magnificent player, but as a young player, and as incredible as this will seem, his game is still developing.

Bugsy is amply qualfied to make this comment. Perhaps he is right and perhaps he is wrong. My guess is that he's right. I think we'd all agree that Nick Varner, though somewhat creative as a young player, became more and more creative at nine ball as he got older. In my opinion, the Nick Varner of the late 1980's was far more creative than the Nick Varner of the early 1980's. If AZB had been around in the early 1980's and somebody said Nick needed to get more creative, they'd have been pounded, but they'd have been right.

Bugsy's comment is a "so what" to me, because Shane is doing all the right things to further his knowledge and playing pedigree and to continue to add to his playing arsenal.

Shane's a great player whose game and knowledge are still on the upswing, and it's not sacrilege to suggest as much, so Bugsy gets a free pass from me.
