Shane Runs Over Dennis

Alternative break..
Dennis got so much behind he gave up.. You never see him give up normally.
This is good example why alternative break is poor at pool. Whoever get far behind does not have a chance and makes dull matches because everyone know loser can´t come back.. without leaders help.

Efren came back down to 10-1 against Hopkins once in an alternate break tourney.
He won 11-10.

I didn't see SVB miss once. Either made the shot or played safe. Just...wow!

he missed a few in the whole tournament

but he has been the most offensive player, others tend to choose defense so quickly

Wu Jiaqing has been brilliant recently also, I hope it will be Shane vs. Wu in the final

This argument against alternate break makes no sense. If somebody can built, for example, an 8-1 lead, then what is to stop their opponent reversing that 8-1 scoreline in the next 9 frames playing the exact same format?

25:19, Dennis breaks, DRILLS the 6 ball (right wing ball) into the corner pocket, goes sits down. Shane steps up and runs the rack. I thought I saw this when I was watching live stream. Now this video confirms what I saw! Could it have made a difference? Possibly!
They're playing the 3-ball headstring rule - only one ball down + one past the head string = illegal break.

In Game 5, when SVB shot the 3, I was amazed how he played shape on the 4.

He took a long time deciding how to shoot that shot,
I think he was worried that the natural 2 rail follow angle might have knuckled him on the 9 ball, which would be a very hard shot, and fiddling with the angle via a touch of stun or more OE was tricky with his long bridging.

So he settled for a potentially tricky shot on the 4 in the middle, backing himself to make it with good bridge access.

2 pocket insurance position.

It guarantees you a shot for the side or corner. The odds are in your favor to get the cue ball to the other side of the table for the better angle to break up the 7 and 8, as he did.

Insurance position is a little advanced, when you know how and when to apply it you can go from running 3 balls to 3 racks.
It's difficult to tell from a video but the natural path does not look appealing to me for a number of reasons.
2,3,4,5, pocket insurance position, everyone should learn to use it, it's really very simple.

You have to screw up pretty bad to lose insurance position.

Sincerely: SS

Don't call this a come back

Pin Yi fights his way back to reach the hill first after being down at least 3 games in an alt break format. Are the odds low, yes but the same thing that got a player to his lead are the same that can get the other player there.

, I think Dennis mental readiness when he plays SVB was evident yesterday. He looked tentative and tight. I think mentally he feels intimated and defeated. I also think they are not good friends anymore after the incident in a tournament I forgot wherein Dennis pointed a finger to SVB about a foul call using a ball to measure the pocket.

I compare what Dennis is going through similar to what Nadal is feeling when facing Djokovic. There was a time when Djokovic defeated Nadal 7 straight times. Nadal played differently with Djokovic than other players. He was extra careful in doing shots he would normally do. That's how I see it.

If you look at the first one ball shot Dennis missed yesterday against SVB, I don't see it going in because of a blocked ball but he still tried to shoot it. I don't know if it is a sign of nerves or desperation for a first shot of a first game. I just sympathized with Dennis. I think it will take time if he can beat Shane again because of the mental factor and not because of skill.

It would be interesting to know the record of Dennis vs Darren and Shane, Darren vs Shane and Dennis. I usually hear news of Darren beating Shane, Shane beating Dennis but Dennis beating Darren? I am not sure of their records. I just think Darren usually beat Shane because Darren plays slower and probably it just stifles Shane a bit.

I still can't get over Dennis spending several minutes protesting Shane asking about removing the magic rack "You can't do that. You can't do that. You can't do that" only to make a scene himself on the VERY NEXT SHOT THAT HE NEEDED IT REMOVED.

That is comedy gold right there. Glad he got drilled.

Here are some screenshots I captured during the magic rack ordeal. The look on Dennis' face is priceless... "Really???"
