Shane is basically a championship rotation player (9 ball and 10 ball) but he is still learning one pocket, which is a very complex game. Shane got a 2 ball spot from Cliff Joyner playing 1 p (Cliff is one of the best 1p players in the world), and Cliff gets a 2 ball spot playing Efren, so realistically to have a fair match, Shane would need a 4 ball spot from Efren. Sure, he could play Efren even, but he is there to make money, not lose it.

I dont think you fully understand the game of 1 pocket. Shane did not ask for weight against efren or busta playing 10 ball he wanted those matches straight up. They backed out. Playing 1 pocket there are 1000 or more shots that you would not normally think of in normal pool. Just because someone is a better 1 pocket player does not really mean they are a better shot maker or pool player, it just means they know the game more. Give Shane a little time his learning curve is above average and he has been throwing himself into the ring with some of the best to learn it.

I just heard it from the people at Derby and on the TAR live feed, but it was well publicized that Shane wanted to play Efren 10 ball and it has been discussed all week. Shane was asking Efren for a 10 ball match as soon as Shane had won enough money. Efren offered 1p with a spot but not 10 ball. It's been obvious to me that Efren doesn't like to play 10 ball against big breakers. His break is good, but not huge and he (and his backers) realize how important the huge break is in 10ball. Who knows? Maybe they're holding back for a different time and place..
The Alex and Shane match is right on. Nobody has to beat Alex!
