Shane vs. Fedor

Well... he's barking again! Nice

I like this kid; he's got that old skool way about him. If I was Shane, I'd be ducking. I couldn't imagine Fedor losing again.

I wonder how much of their own money would be bet in something like this. My guess would be nothing and instead they'd he happy to take a percentage if they won. In that regard, I'm sure they would like to play for $10 million of their backer's money.

Yes.... to all of that

Agreed. Everyone talks about how well Shane has done with his money, properties, etc. but neither Shane nor Fedor can lose 100k without it hurting.

it's mars vs sword money.. but of course neither would wanna lose. i think it be wise for shane to duck this one. just a hunch

It's easier to understand than my question, apparently.

I'll try again...

Who has beat SVB in a long race of 10 Ball?
From memory, only Earl beat him in 10 ball (10' converted snooker table in Ohio), and Alex Pagulayan (9' Diamond). Those were both races to 100.

He lost some shorter races to 21-25 range vs Busty or Archer (I forget which when TAR switched their format towards the end) and Alex Kazakis in Greece.

Edit, one of those race to 21 range sets was def vs Busty when Efren turned off the light switch at DCC. I remember I had a side bet on it.

Tied vs Chang in a race to 120 range in 10 ball.

In 9 ball, Dennis Orcullo finally beat him after losing many times (in 10 ball) in a race to 100 or 120 with a hill-hill score.

Shane has been almost unbeatable in this format since TAR 1 in 2007.

C/P from Fedor Facebook...

I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who supported and followed my match against Shane Van Boening. It was a hard-fought battle, and despite my efforts, Shane emerged victorious with a final score of 120-116.

A special thanks to Kyle Ferguson and the Railyard Billiards & Sports Pub crew for hosting a fantastic event. Your dedication to pool and hospitality were greatly appreciated.

I’d also like to thank Jason Sword and Scott Frost for their insightful commentary throughout the match, providing valuable perspectives for viewers. Steven Wyatt, for behind-the-scenes assistance in ensuring everything ran smoothly.

To all my supporters, both near and far, your encouragement means a lot to me. It’s what drives me to keep improving in this sport.

And to the fans who traveled from different states and countries to attend, your presence made the event even more special.

Lastly, I acknowledge that while I may have spoken confidently before the match, Shane’s skill and endurance impressed me. I look forward to the possibility of a rematch in the future. Let’s double the bet and find dates that will work for both of us.

Called it!
Four games difference after 236 games. You have every right to flip it and go again. You are exactly as hungry and skilled as Shane was at your age. The pool world has many stories of the old lion and the young lion clashing.

Look up the story of the Boy Wonder, Willie Hoppe challenging the literal Old Lion, Andre Vigenreaux, the French champion, in France. That match was international news and the stakes were well over 50,000 with more bets being placed each day. National pride was on the line in addition to what certainly was the equivalent of a million dollars in 2024 money.

You have heart, you have character, and you have the skills to back up any challenge you wish to make. I think you also give back to the community in many ways and want to say that I appreciate you for that.

Next time you could be the one on top by 4 games or you might run the last ten racks.... Or Shane could. Whatever the outcome we will all be fortunate to see two of the most accomplished elite players battling for days. Anyone who watches who doesn't get better as a player isn't really serious about improving.

Most of us will never have the occasion to get in the box for high stakes in an even match for days. That's where heart and stamina come in and we can see who is able to fade the heat and stay focused.

From a fan..... Thank you for being willing to entertain us and give us a view into the type of long form heads-up match we almost never see in other sports.

And the one time that Dennis won Shane had him beat pretty badly and missed one nine ball that allowed Dennis to start coming back. To Dennis' credit be fought hard from that point and could have easily lost.

The only other time Shane lost from being so far ahead was against Alex. Kudos to the players who could come back from such deficits against Shane.
Otherwise, for sure Shane is absolutely the undisputed king of long race heads-up matches.

Any player living likely has an open invitation to try him. None of them want to go into day 3 15-20 games down and bet on themselves from there in my opinion.

Awesome, thanks for some facts, fellas!
So aside from the first time against the Pearl, he's come out on top!? Good stuff!

I think pretty much the only person who likely has the full record is At Large who maintains a database of stats and usually shows up in threads like this to correct anything inaccurately said.

Here are all of the TAR matches, from 2007 (shane beats corey) to 2014 (shane beats efren). Anything after that would have all been independent promoters.

I am just waiting for you to start publishing year books so I can collect them and have all the stats handy. I would gladly fund a website project for you to fill up.

the 9-ball stats are collected and published on the colostate website dr dave has.

kind of interesting when ppl talk about how BNR's have decreased in later years with tighter pockets. BNR's are actually higher now than when shane won his US opens. iirc.

Shane and Fedor should focus on their Mosconi Cup performances.

Loyal US fans are fed up of being let down every December.
