Shane's Last Match

I'm not 100% sure but I think the MVP is chosen based on wins. I heard someone in the press room say that if Johnny won his last match he would have gotten MVP (would have given him a perfect record) and if he lost then it went to Hatch. I love Johnny, but I wanted Hatch to win it, he really added something to the team that brought out the fight in the rest of the players.

I'm not exactly sure myself how the MVP is picked. But last year in Malta Ralf was perfect. Mika lost a doubles match (paired with Mark Gray), but still won the MVP-award. I thought that was a bit strange, because I assumed the number of wins would determine the MVP as well.

Still, for Mika it was a great way to get that monkey off his back when he didn't get out back in '06 to win the Cup for the Euros. So I guess there's other factors considered in choosing the MVP.

Congrats to Team USA and Shane for a flawless match under immense pressure.

I Agree as well......

i felt nautious when shane broke, and no balls went up above the string.....Stupid Rule !!!!

But then i was extatic when the kaiser missed the shot on the 2....

a true emotionally crazy last rack !!!!

Way To Go USA !

i don't intend to take anything away from Dennis Hatch, and he was the MVP no doubt. The true lifeblood of the team was Dennis.

However, Shane's win over Ralf was at least twice as impressive as Dennis' 6-0 win over Niels.

#1 Niels was not even in the same arena in terms of skill, nerves, or clutchness as Ralf Souquet. He's a great player, but was clearly rattled by Dennis and that would not have happened with Ralf.

#2 Shane came back and beat a guy who just served him up real sporty. That's extremely difficult. It's hard to beat a guy 2x, but when the pressure is up like it is in Mosconi it's even harder to get over the fact that someone just beat you.

#3 Shane had an awful awful start to the match, a horrible lag and a really bad safety. He recovered from that on top of the rest of the current circumstances.

#4 You could see Shane was visibly rattled the entire match and he still pulled it out, quieted his mind and did what he had to do.

Kudos to Shane, the force is strong with him.

I don't want this to turn into an MVP debate, but that rule IMO is a little outdated. I thought Dennis was clearly the MVP, and would have been dissappointed if I wouldn't have got to see him ball his eyes out after receiving it lol, jk. Some matches are bigger than others, so to go off strictly wins/losses is not a good thing IMO
