Shane's Last Match

Ok, I have see a bunch of Hatch threads, and rightfully so, I love the guy after this event and becoming MVP...

But I just wanted to point out how HUGE I thought Shanes match was. Obviously a win here brought us the cup, but if Shane drops that match, I would have had a sick feeling in my stomach and the odds of Europe running those last two matches were pretty dang good, IMO. Not to mention he was playing the Kaiser!

Props to Shane for coming through, that was clutch!

I agree with you 100%. Shane's match was huge after Johnny's match put the momentum with Europe's team plus Shane had lost to Ralf already. I couldn't be more pleased with Dennis's performance and addition to the US team, but Shane put in a performance that saved the day after Europe started coming back.

Absolutely. Those short races are brutal, and he stood his ground at the wire.
Kid's tough as nails - we all knew that, but one or two rolls are magnified tremendously in these short races. When he saw Soquet show an ounce of weakness - he stepped down hard.
Clutch gear big time.

Yes, very good point ! CLUTCH effort indeed.

Without a doubt it was a tremendous win. Both sides should be proud - it was truly outstanding play by all. I've never seen better pool. Unfortunately I missed the first day but I was rivited to my pc for the last two days of play. Glad to see USA win but I also feel for Team Europe - they put up a valiant come-back. Bravo!

Two   zy112!

Had Shane lost that, it was NOT a stretch to see the US letting the cup slip through our fingers.

And when he lagged 2 diamonds short I think I swallowed my adams apple. And the first rack he played shakey and Ralf ... well he was ole solid Ralf.

I did NOT feel real good after rack 1 vs the Kaiser.

Then on the 2nd rack Shane got a funky spread early on. He was a little loose with position but kept making strong shots and eventually cleared it. He needed to let his stroke out and get loose, that rack was critical.

Was that when he started with that animated right arm shaking out move to alleviate tension?

CONGRATS TO SHANE FOR FINISHING OFF THE EUROS!!! Ralf was primed to go and was THE bad mo fo of all Euro's this cup. Shane stared down the best and took it down! Awesome play (that last forced 7 ball shape to the long railed 8 was some crazy azz juice, I wondered if the CB would ever stop spinning!)

:)

I agree, Hatch was the Cinderella story, but Shane faded alot of heat beating Ralf and deserves a lot of credit.

I think this weekend showed the world what alot of us already knew. 3 top US players...SHANE, JA, and HATCH.

I'd just like to say that I couldn't have asked for a better finish. Shane losing the first one set Hatch up for what he did, then Archer having played as great as he had all cup long.. I just felt like Shane deserved another shot.. and he got it, and he proved that he is the Elite of elite.

Shane set the tone the first day, coming with shots that were so brilliant, the commentators were fooled, and mesmerized.

I thought he was MVP, Hatch a very close second. The voting could have gone either way, like the Heisman did this weekend.

SVB is still the # 1 USA player and don't forget it! without that clutch match win it could have gotten very ugly. My friend Dennis Hatch is so clutch and powerful, that is why we all voted him in, but SVB is a monster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking the same thing.

Like others have said, after the earlier loss to Ralf, and then the first rack of the match....my stomache was in knots. It is funny how we had this big lead and we were trading matches with Europe day 4, but after Archer lost it just felt to me like there was a momentum shift. Shane showed some real grit to get up there, shake off the earlier loss and get the job done.

Let's not forget that Shane beat Mika the first day also. I was also hoping that JA lost his match, so Shane could get another shot at Ralph and take the winning shot for the cup! Some of the best pool I have seen in a while.

The Mosconi Cup is such a different dynamic - the team play, doubles, short races, funky break rule...
Race to 100, how many of the Euros wanna get in the box with Shane do you suppose?
Or Archer, or Hatch, for that matter.
The Cup is another animal.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the MVP is chosen based on wins. I heard someone in the press room say that if Johnny won his last match he would have gotten MVP (would have given him a perfect record) and if he lost then it went to Hatch. I love Johnny, but I wanted Hatch to win it, he really added something to the team that brought out the fight in the rest of the players.

Shane played an awesome last match. You could tell he really wanted it, never seen so much emotion in him when he played. Shane had his 3 grandparents there watching him. His dad's parents had not seen him play since he turned pro so I know that was really special for them to see him this weekend, especially winning the final match.

Ok! I agree that Dennis Hatch deserved the MVP ! But from now on I think Shane should be known as Mr. December!!! Go! Shane!

To me that makes this Cup even sweeter. I hope they had a great trip to Vegas.

Shane told me to post this "Hey Johnny, thanks for dumping your last match".

;) ;) ;)

Your are correct, I liked Shane based on my criteria, unofficial of course!
