I go to the US Open every year and I missed seeing Shannon Daulton this year. Does anyone know why he didn't play this year? I hope everything is OK with him and I missed getting to watch him battle it out in the Open. I'm still waiting for him to win it one year and I know he has the talent to do it.

Their tour (Great Southern Billiards Tour) had a stop both weekends during the Open. I'm sure it made better financial sense to have tour stops than spend the money to go to the Open.

I've always enjoyed watching Shannon play and will miss seeing he & Marge at tournaments. I'm also happy for them that their tour is doing well. I wish them the best.

That is the deal. He loves the Open and wants to win it more than anything but sometimes you have to make hard decisions. When you factor in room cost, entry fee and food it is quite costly. You basically have to place top 8 to break even and that is quite a feat in that field.

He will be back to take a crack at it, probably next year.

Thanks for the information. I didn't think about their 9 ball tour playing during the US Open since they do the scheduling.

I know all about how much it costs to go to the US Open since this year was my 15th year in a row going. If you drive like I do then you have gas, food, hotel, and my VIP seat expenses and it adds up to quite an investment. I look at it like a vacation and I plan pretty far in advance for the trip.

Barry and his staff do a great job with all aspects of the Tournament and I enjoy going to Q-masters during the time i'm there almost as much as watching the matches in the Open.

Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the Open this year. We had two GSBT tour stops those weekends. We had to make a choice between attending the Galveston event or the US Open. We couldn't take off four weekends. We decided to go to the World Classic because it was a new event and wanted to support it. It turned out to be a great decision but then I was bummed that I didn't get to compete at the Open. It is one of my favorite tournaments and I would love to win it! We will definitely be back next year. Our tour is going well and there just aren't enough weekends to accomodate all of the pool rooms, but we aren't complaining.

Thanks for the update and unless I have an emergency i'll be there at the Open next year to watch you battle it out and hopefully win it.

I can't wait for your GSBT to come back to Charleston, SC so I can play in it again. I've been playing a lot of 9 ball since your last trip here and i'd like another chance to play that level of competition again. I hope to see you and Marge soon.....
