Sharing Some Funny and Crazy Moments

A guy was watching Efren play and didn't know who he was. (How a fan of pool doesn't know who Efren Reyes is escapes me.) Anyway, his comment was: "Who is this guy? Houdini??"

During the last matches on Saturday night, the people next to us in the convention centre started playing Latino Christmas music - LOUD. You could feel the tables vibrating! Feliz Navidad!

During the finals, while Mike Sigel was shooting, there was dead silence... then you could hear someone stomping up the back stairs of the bleachers to join the audience. Everyone turned to see who it was, and it's this cute little girl! We all had a good laugh, including Mike.

Saturday night, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Hispanic Business Initiative Fund of Orlando had an awards banquet in the Valencia Room next door for their eighth annual Don Quijote Awards, which recognize achievements by Hispanic entrepreneurs and professionals.

I was taking a smoke break and ran into these two in the hallway, worthy of a picture! There's a name for their characters in the scheme of things, but I can't remember it. :p

Hi, John! I haven't had a chance yet to catch up on all the threads. Keith sends his regards. He is REALLY EXCITED about the IPT, as is every single player who was in attendance in Orlando.

This was a precedent event for pool players from around the world. Keith said that "Kevin Trudeau is taking pool out of the mud," and it gives pool players hope for a decent future. Hall of Famer Ed Kelly told Keith to make sure he is strong and healthy, that he should take advantage of this opportunity.

Many industry members were present and couldn't believe the magnitude of it all. There were more cameras at the IPT King of the Hill Shootout than at a Super Bowl. There was a team of media, beyond my grasp of how all of the players worked together. This was a "first" for the camera technicians and producers. One day, a camera man went on a golf outing with Gabe Owen, Corey Deuel, Barry Behrman and his buddy and spent the whole day shooting for the reality portion of the TV show.

After Efren beat Mike Sigel, the players assembled next door to collect their fine winnings. TD Deno Andrews called each one of them individually by name. One by one, they walked up and posed with Deno handing them their check, as a photographer was on hand to take the picture. You should have seen the expressions on their faces, full of pride and happiness.

Francisco Bustamante said this was the BIGGEST win of his career, $80,000 for coming in third place, and he was a very happy camper. Throughout the event, retro dance music was played in the hallways, very upbeat, making you want to tap your feet. I saw Fabio Petroni break out with a few moves between shots on the practice table. When Bustie was exiting the tournament room after receiving his winnings, he danced his way out onto the red carpet. What a great moment!

I must say that every single player looked handsome dressed up in their suits, especially Keith! ;)

Some funny experiences. Welcome back to the forum JAM. :D

Hi, TannerPruess!:) Do you know Austin Murphy? I got a chance to meet the 12-year-old in Orlando. He's most definitely a straight shooter and has a lot of talent at such a young age. He said he never took lessons and just picked it up on his own. I think he's a natural!

I had read an interview with him in this month's Billiards Digest. He lives in northern California, and he said his favorite player was Johnny Archer. I asked him if he had read the article about him in Billiards Digest yet, and he hadn't. So we located the magazine and let him read all about it. Austin mentioned that he was also featured in Sports Illustrated a while back! Here's a pic of Austin and his dad.

No, I don't know him personally, but like to keep informed of all the youth shooters participating in big tournaments.

Austin's been a regular at Hardtimes in Sacramento for the last few years. He has an older brother (Braden 16) that plays in the wheelchair events all over the country.

Austin's brother and Dad are regular fixtures at all of Hardtimes' tournaments.

Last year Austin won the annual USPPA handicapped 8 Ball event

It was great to see Austin just being a kid. We sat next to them at the Finals, but Austin left after the first set...to go play tag!

One afternoon, Mike Sigel approached Austin, and he asked if he knew who he was. Austin said, "Yes, sir, you're Mike Sigel."

Mike said, "Yeah, I heard you could beat me!"

Austin appeared absolutely star struck. He's a very polite and talented young man!

WELCOME BACK JAM!!!:D :D :D Man I missed your posts. It's good to see that you enjoyed the tourney. Heck, I may just find where you play and ask you personally how it went.:p By the way, I liked Keith's suit real nice. It wasn't a tux was it?

Keith is Lookin' Sharp!

JAM,

I assume that you had some input into Keith's clothing choices. Nice job! He cleans up real good!

All of us who are fans of his are pulling for him as well as the success of the IPT. What a great start! BTW, it's nice to see you posting again. Your missives are always welcomed.

They are both in Reno but never saw anyone come close to any high rolling. In fact there was very little action. A lot of losses on the gaming tables however.
