I am interested in one of his cues. Been out of the pool scene for quit some time. I would like some feed back on his cues. I have heard nothing bad and just wanted some input before I pull the trigger. Thanks in advance.

Well since no one is offering any info.....I can say that Shawn is a super player & a fine gentleman. He's played with an ultra nice Josey for as long as I can remember. So...he should at least know how a great hitting cue is suppose to play. I'd wager he can carry that knowledge over to the cues he makes. While I've not held one in my hands, I'm sure the quality is fine. I do know he absolutely loves his inlay machine.:)

If YOU like it buy it. If we only cared what other people thought none of us would have cues [ there aren't that many szams, searings, bushkas, or other top makers for everyone to have one.] So if YOU like the hit & feel of the cue buy it. who knows maybe he will be the next big name. My only concern would be if there has been problems with the finish lifting or cue/shaft warpage [NOT SAYING THERE IS] same concern for all cues. If there's not then the hit is totally up to you.enjoy & good luck.

Thanks, I have never hit with one of his cues and that is why I need some input. I do really like the look of this cue,and am looking for some hit feedback. Thanks again for the info.

Why not contact Shawn and ask him what type of hit his cues have? He is here on AZ as Shawn Putnam. I am guessing they may well be close to the type of hit a Josey has...but it is purely a guess. I can tell you from experience, that a Josey cue is a stiff playing cue.

Regarding Shawn's cues

I have known Shawn since 1998 as a player before a cuemaker....

Since then he has learned the cuebuilding trade under "Josey" and has evolved into quite a craftsman...

I was fortunate to have repaired a couple of his earlier models from 2003 and he definitley learned a great deal from Josey and does exceptional work...

The cues were a little banged up from transit and rough handling so I refinished them and cleaned up the joint faces.. needless to say he does a jam up job on quality and takes a great deal of pride in his work !

So my advice to any of you is that if you have a chance to pick up a Shawn Putnum hand built cue, it would be a good investment, his cues are only going up in value and the fact he's a professional player doesn't hurt either....

Sincerely, Eddie Wheat

I like the way Sean's cues look, and I hope you get the info your looking for, but don't consider Eddie's statement as a buying motive...There are a limited amount of cuebuilders that fit into the "investment" category..Remember Eddie has already admitted to creative marketing...Would you take advice from Phineas Taylor Barnum? :D

Actually, I would NEVER include anyone else especially a fellow cuemaker in MY marketing strategies....

The statement I made is for future investment reference and I was not saying his cues are a high return on your money as of right now !

Does it bother you that I support and show respect to some of the other cuemakers and that I'm really NOT a conceited self-important elitist cuemaker as some of the clowns from the "peanut gallery" portray me as ???

I DO govern myself accordingly and will retaliate as warranted.... overall I'm a happy-go-lucky but serious minded person who simply doesn't allow ANYONE to push me around !

Sincerely, Eddie Wheat :)

I had a Putnam cue once and it played very well . Shawn has a cue in the works for me as we speak . I can tell you Shawn is a great guy to talk to and work with.

Thanks ....... Larry

Great Value

I have bought 6 Shawn Putnam cues in the last couple years. His work is superb. Excellent finish and top playability. Shawn uses very good materials and is selective of his shaft wood and tips especially. Expect quality for short money when you buy a Putnam. Low production and top performance make for a good investment too. Shawn only has time to build a few cues when he is not touring. If you find one you like, go for it.

Putnam

I have seen the cues that Shawn has produced from different shows over the years, and I was very impressed with the consistent, solid hit of each one. I really don't think you will be disappointed with your cue. It was very obvious to me that Shawn won't let any thing be sold that is not his best. Good luck with your purchase, Kent.

Shawn make as fine a hitting cue as I have played with. His pricing is pretty tough to beat as well.

Also, Shawn no longer plays with Josey Custom Cues, he now uses a Tiger Cue from his own line with Tiger Products exclusively. There are currently two signature models available with Shawn having designed them both.

At the BCA show this weekend in Charlotte, I was able to get my hands on some of his cues. I was as curious as anyone.

Honesty, I was VERY impressed. The finish was superb! Super flat. No dimples. VERY nice. The wraps fit nuts. The seams on the leather were top notch. His inlay work was nice.

To say it again, I was very impressed. The workmanship was excellent.

Like I said before... Shawn has come along way in his cuebuilding techniques and only great things are to come !!!!!

He is very passionate about it and it shows in his evolved work !!!
