Shawn Putnams new nickname

Not sure when this happend but it's the first I'm hearing of it. I'm going to guess sometime between VF & now...Just got this through the Vegas grapevine. ;)

DJ "Bubba the Love Sponge" threatened to sue Shawn if he did not cease and desist calling himself "The Love Sponge," so now he's "Big Bubba."

I heard about this awhile back, and I think that is F****ng ridiculous. How can you patent a nickname? Linda, you better change yours... I'm sure it infringes on some sort of copyright law with Marvel Comics. Pfft, please. This DJ is a tool.

Btw, even though we know him as Bubba the Love Sponge, people usually refer to him as one or the other, so no copyright infringement there.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to legally change my name to Sweet Marissa Yi, and register it as my trademark. /sarcasm

I don't know about Timberly, but I think "Love Sponge" was kind of a goofy nickname.

Having gotten to know Shawn a bit, he's one of the younger players on the circuit who's gained a great deal of respect, due to his excellence on a field of green.

"Big Bubba" may be what Shawn likes now, as he's very tall and has a great presence. He can be sweet as a honey bee when you speak to him on the offs, very enthusiastic about the sport.

BTW, he's having a great tournament here in Vegas. I'd like nothing better than to see an American win the whole shebang.

Go Shawn, and may this first history-making IPT championship have an all-American finals.

I never cared for it. Not only was it goofy but I'm also of the belief that you don't give yourself a nickname. It's something that's earned/given for something that you've done. Good/bad/stupid.... doesn't matter, it's something that's given to you by others, not yourself. JMO, don't shoot the messenger. ;) I was originally under the impression that it was given to him but found out differently later on.

I also do not think that Bubba is fitting. The only thing he has in common with the Bubba stereotype is his size. Most Bubba stereotpes that I've seen include a dirty, redneck, rough & gruff type of person. The day Shawn puts on a pair of overalls, grows a beard, and actually gets his hands dirty will be the day that H E double L freezes over. :p
