You can have all the feel and all the instinct in the world, but if you hit the ball in the wrong place it isn't going into the pocket.
An aiming "system" eliminates guesswork on where to hit the ball....but you still have to hit that spot. That's where the feel and instinct come into play.
Those Phillipino fellas are taught very early exactly WHERE to aim. Then they develop their mechanics to hit those spots over and over.
Becoming a champion requires, as most say, hours and hours of rehearsal. But, rehearsing the CORRECT things.

Most(all??) Filipino's aren't taught anything. They take up the game and just play. Yes Virginia, it is by feel and repetition. This idea that they're are all taught a specific way to aim is nuts.

I am certainly not Filipino, but I was definitely never taught "aim" in pool when I was a kid and played with the adults. I was always just told to keep hitting balls til I made em more than I missed. Sure as hell, those old codgers were right and I started instinctually aiming and making balls. Of course I've always seen a shot line or a spot on the ball, but the whole holding the cue stick out, or using fractional ball styles or cue tip halves, no. If it's a paper thin cut, I know it's edge to edge, before I ever heard what edge to edge was. If it's a slice or tight cut, sometimes I walk around the ball to see how thin it is. If it's thicker than that, I just wing it.

Now that I am much more serious about pool, I've looked into all the methods and incorporate a little from some of them, but more shots than not I am just aiming by instinct. The same way I shoot deer with my recurve bow and no sites. I look where I want my arrow to go, and it usually goes there if I am in practice and not rusty. Same for the cue ball, it's my arrow, and if I am practiced, it goes where I am looking.

Aiming systems are designed to get you close to the actual aim line so the amount of "guesswork" is relatively small, but almost never eliminated - there's almost always some "by feel" adjustment needed to get from the system alignment to the needed aim line.

In fact, recognizing when a system alignment is right on (no adjustment needed) works by "feel" too.

I tend to agree, some aiming systems are designed to get you close, yes, such as the fractional method, CP and a couple others.

I also think that some are designed to empty your wallet.
