I know this should be in the machanics section but I want your opinions to. If I was to buy double thick cushion facings, could I just remove the rails, remove the staples from the cloth at the rail ends, glue on the new facings and restaple the cloth?

It is in the mechanics section where you get answers, not "opinions" from people that do Not do table work.

I apologize for posting this in the Main Forum. I just was wondering if anyone has had extra facings put in thier table without replacing the cloth.

Technically you "Could" do that, but you might have some issues.

Some advise that I got from RKC is to buy some Neoprene Rubber (local rubber company will have).

Remove and throw out the crap facings you have on there now (As they will get hard over time and make the ball react funny).

You might have to get 2 different sizes based on the difference in starting and finishing width.

If you are going from a 5" pocket to a 4.5" pocket, you will have to do some adjustment of the Angle of the facings as well.

For mine, I had to change the miter by 2 degrees from front to back of the pocket. So you have to sand down the new facing, else your pockets won't react correctly. I installed the thicker facing that I sanded down first and then attached a 2nd thinner facing to that one.

One problem you'll have is in using the same cloth. Chances are that you will not have enough for both ends of the rail for the extra cloth.

Here is a picture of my finished product.

As already answered in the mechanics section - and the previous post - the likelihood is you won't be able to rewrap the rail ends sufficiently, especially with simonis. Doubling 1/8" shims or replacing with 1/4" shims only narrows a pocket by 1/4" anyway which is pretty much a waste of time if starting with 5" pockets. This is not to say you can't put extra facings (hack fix) on without replacing the cloth but it will probably play and look like crap.

Dartman is the sensei when it comes to table cloth and pocket facings.
