Shooting Glasses

Might want to send a pm to DWBOD. Doug is an eye doctor and he should have some good suggestions for you.

Decot Classic Hy-Wyd. This company is well known for sport shooting glasses, but pool players use glasses the same way sport shooters do. They have an adjustable nosepiece that allows you to raise/lower the lenses to allow you to "look up" through the lenses while you are bent over the table, similarly to how sport shooters "look up" to track clays moving through the air.

They also have ear pieces that wrap around the back of your ear, so they do not fall off when you bend over, unlike the other posts glasses.

Make sure you doctor dials in your prescription for the 4-12 foot range. Most optometrists will make your prescription to be sharpest at reading distance, which is no good for pool players.

In both contacts and glasses, having your doctor focus on the 4-10 foot range makes a BIG difference.

Just for your knowledge, the focal point of your lenses is moved up to be in the upper portion of your lense, as that is the portion of the lense you look through when bent over the table.

Stick with someone who is know for making these type of glasses. Your average optometrist will not know what you want unless you explain in nauseating detail what you are using the glasses for, and that you want to be able to see 4-10 feet.

I'd stick with Decot.

Before I had some Lasik surgery (about 15 years ago), my regular glass frames forced me to stand more upright (1920s billiards style).

My optometrist (at the time) had some experience with sports glasses and recommended the following:
- Frame style with large lens
- Nose adjustments that forced the frame higher on my head
- Center of focus raised into the upper half of the lens
- Distance dialed into 6-8 feet

The pair he produced allowed my chin to get near the stick - which helped make my view more two-dimensional.

So yes - I would recommend eyeglasses customized for playing. But first, talk with some players who have purchased them and get their feedback. There might be a recommendation or two to help with the choices.

Don't expect a miraculous improvement of your game. Your skills still have to be earned.
