Well, I bought a boat. So.... my buddy and I decided to go and pay for it and do the paperwork in Edgewater, NJ. Then, the boat mover will bring it down to Wilmington. I'm a little excited about the "weekend boat excursions."
Well, we left earlier in the week to play pool all the way from Raleigh to NYC. We didn't have a lot of time, but we did stop in several poolrooms and bars. Played a little small action in bars but the main city where we spent most of our time was near Baltimore. I played a very nice guy in Running Out Billiards (which served NO ALCOHOL). Sorry, not used to that, so we didn't stay. He quit after the first set, going hill-hill. He told us to stick around and there's plenty of action, but I don't stay long with no beer to play on.
So, he sent us to the Green Room. This place was unbelievable. Somewhere near 30 barboxes, and all loaded with league. I put out the word and a pretty cool guy named David Stem? answered the call for action. He had already gotten a call from the first place we were. Wow. We couldn't even get a table. There were two in the back, but they were holding them in case another team showed up. So, I offered a game where I'd have to outrun the nuts again. By the way David, you still can get the game I offered. We'll keep it between us. Since there was no table after about an hour and a half, David and I called off our game and I headed for the motel. But, this place deserves a big plug. The pro shop was as elaborate as it could be. Charlie? was very nice and seemed knowledgeable. So, thumbs up to the Green Room and David. Thanks for chance at something to "shoot at." Next time.
Oh yeah, I have to mention this. I asked one guy if anyone wanted to play some cheap nine ball, and he said, "I know a guy. Tony Long or Roger Long?. He likes to play $500 and $600 a game, not your cheap game." Wow, what a response. Tony or Roger, if you're out there, I'll play some next trip if I ever make it back up there. It sure won't be $500 a game on the barbox, though. What an answer. Ha Ha. But, the beer was cold and music loud. Love it.
Next, we went to some bars to no avail. Here are some comments: "Yeah, like we're gonna gamble with you Mr. A L E man."
"I've got a guy, here, he's on the phone."
"Hello, who is this?"
"I'm from the Carolinas, you won't know me. Wanna hit'em around for something cheap? $50 a set or a buck? Twenty a game?"
"Who are you, I don't feel like coming out now. Tell me who you are and I'll come to you and play some."
So, I'm ten minutes away from this fella, and he wanted to know me and drive to NC to play me? Weird. By the way, good luck with the name I gave you if you read this.
Different Bar: Championship league night. "You give up what?"
"Whatta ya want?"
"Ah, you can't give what I want."
"I'll break and first shot, and if you make two in a row, you win?"
"The odd balls."
"Deal."
"Nah, no action around here for you."
I probably would've even tried the odd balls just to stir something up, but again to no avail. So, back to the hotel after a twelve pack or so. Oh well, on to NYC.
Sorry, I'll have to save that one for another time. All in all, I basically played one REAL set, and bought a boat. Maybe next time I'll have more time. Thanks to all who made the trip fun, and reminded me how it would suck to try to do this shit for a living even if I played champion speed. Trying to find the spots, trying to get the "spots" right. Then, trying to outrun the "spots." No thanks. I'm going boating. I'll play some later.
