Shot Doesn't Feel Right?

How many times have you got down to shoot after your PSR and the shot just didn't feel right to you, but you shot it anyhow...and missed? Most of the time it's because we made a mistake getting our bodies lined up right for the shot. Whenever that little voice says "This don't look right" I get up and start over with my PSR. Almost w/o fail I make the shot. Johnnyt

I think this comes from being able to trust yourself and your senses. Sometimes too you aren't sure about a shot but know you went through the correct motions, expect to miss it - but then pocket the ball like champ.

There are times when I'm down and my subsonscious is throwing red flags all over the place and I think "nah, it'll be fine - i'll just cheat the pocket a little"... and the ball misses by a diamond. lol!

Lastly, there are times when you feel *sure* you are lined up right and everything feels right and the shot doesn't go... and that hurts your self-trust; which is hard to overcome.

How do you know when you trust yourself? hahaha

The unconscious and the subconscious do communicate with us. The language used by these functions is what we call “feelings.” When you meet a person for the first time and “instinctively” feel that you do not like them that is your highly developed unconscious telling you that they do not like what the see.

The more the other sides of consciousness know about playing pool the more often they can communicate accurate information about what they are and are not capable of performing. I think that people who play quite well have learned to listen to and trust those feelings.

For those of us who have not yet arrived at the professional level of play there is an interchange between the unconscious, subconscious and conscious sides with each learning about the abilities of the other.

For me this means observing my “feelings” about a shot and then later evaluating who was better at estimating the outcome. When you know this is going on you learn to listen and to help refine those limitations through conscious training.

Life can get complicated when you have to think and feel your way through it. However, it is much more enjoyable than the life of the "air head" who just proceeds blindly.

Right on! If it doesn't 'feel' right ..... it's likely 'NOT' right!
